  • It's been an interesting couple of days for a variety of reasons so I'm looking forward to the weekend (working tomorrow though so no lie-in :()

House - we now have a door on the electricity meter cupboard now :T really pleased with that as it looks a lot nicer! Dgs's room has now had the decoration completed - we've put blackboard paint on some of his walls so he will be able to have plenty of fun in there when he's old enough :D The tiles arrived for the hallway but the mosaic ones are the wrong colour so they are having to be replaced - I'm glad that I haven't booked the tiler yet!! ;) I'm going to wait until the right ones have turned up before I call him. Sparky has cancelled tomorrow as he has some stuff he needs to get done so it looks like it will be another week at least before the electrics are finished.....longest job in history!!

I've started to prepare pots ready for seeds - I'm getting the tomatoes in at some point in the next week which should inspire me to clear the greenhouse in the next few weeks although if the weather remains the way it is at the moment, they'll be the indoor type for longer than they should be! :rotfl:

I've spent some of the grocery money now so I will need to get that logged and sorted this weekend - not a lot, just some chilli's and loo roll (no, not related! :rotfl:)

    316 days to go......
  • Congrats on your progress. That is so exciting to be so close to MF and renovations being done. Will follow with interest.
    Mortgage start date Dec 2015 - $64,655.00
Mortgage end date Dec 2045 - NOT!!!!
    Mortgage balance  - $4600.00
    Business Savings $43,310/100k
Hope to be mortgage-free by end of 2023
  • Thanks LeighofMar! :D It is exciting but it really makes time go slower!! ;):rotfl:

So, dh has cleared out our change jar and put it to the mortgage today - I'm not sure of the figures but will sort it when he gets home (it's not much - about £20 but it's another bit off the balance! ;))

It looks like the tiles that I ordered for the hallway are going to be an issue - the first lot that arrived where considerably paler than the ones in the shop so they have ordered me some more but I got a phone call today suggesting that the new lot that have arrived are not much better! :( I'll go and check them out tomorrow but I have a horrible feeling that I am going to have to choose something else which is going to be a total nightmare as they were the only ones that I liked :wall:
Keeps it interesting I suppose! :rotfl:

I am hoping to order the wardrobes at the weekend - once we get them, it will really feel like the house is coming together :D it will be lovely to actually be able to put stuff away where it belongs and finally have some sort of order....I must admit, that is one of the things I am most looking forward to - I can't stand clutter or mess and I have spent the past six months living in nothing but - self inflicted I know, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the back of it! ;)

I'm away for a few days next week which will have an impact on the finances - I'm really looking forward to it though so I don't mind at all, I think with the amount of stress I have had over recent months, I deserve a bit of R&R and when I come back, all none house or mortgage related expenses will be done so I can really get my head down and plough ahead :D

The self-care part of my transformation plan hasn't begun but when I get back from my trip, I'm really going to start putting the effort in - in all honesty, the conclusion of some recent events have certainly helped with my mental good health so I can wait another week or two for the physical to be taken care of ;)

Anyhoo, better be off - brandy to drink (don't judge, I'm not starting the physical health stuff for about 10 days! ;):rotfl:)

    312 days to go......
  • I'm having a day of rest! :D I had my dgs last night which meant a night of no sleep (not my fault, he's just so gorgeous that I spend all night awake looking at him! :happyhear:rotfl:) and the night before, I had about an hour and a half of sleep then woke up and just couldn't get back off :wall: so today I am literally just going to lay in bed, watch dvd's and do nothing! :D

We managed to put an additional few quid to the mortgage the other day - it was £36 which I am pleased about! My car went through it's MOT without needing anything doing too so it's been a couple of really good days :T

We have had a bit of a change of plan - we have decided that anything that remains from the food and petrol budgets will actually go to the mortgage rather than the house fund - we are doing well enough with the house fund (I have to update my sig) to be able to ease off it a tiny bit - we will still be able to do both in the time anticipated but I like seeing the mortgage come down so it will make me more comfortable mentally.;)

    310 days to go.....
  • The sparky has finished!!!:j:j
I'm immensely happy about that, it means no more weekends of banging and drilling etc and no more hanging around waiting for him! ;)

My car insurance was up for renewal and I've managed to get it for £27 less than my renewal quote so happy about that too :D I've also done one birthday out of the two so by the end of the week I will have no more expenses other than the mot for dh's car, renovations and mortgage to contend with for a while...that means that i can really buckle down and get this done. ;)

It will be nice to feel back in control again as recently events seem to have snowballed despite none of them being unexpected - I think the lack of sleep and constantly living in chaos has made it harder to feel in control :o

Anyhoo, all is going well and I don't have any complaints- I'm still on track to achieve my aims so am incredibly grateful for that - just hoping that i can do it a bit quicker ;)

  • Wardrobes have been ordered!!:j Really pleased with that as it will make a huge difference to how much stuff is still laying around :o We also have a new door frame and door on the bathroom (the new door frames are in everywhere else but we can't do the doors until the new carpets are laid) and the door is really nice - I'm pleased with the choice :D I'm no further forward with the hallway tiles though which is a bit depressing - I've abandoned the original ones altogether now as they just weren't the colour they were in the shop, I am going to look at a couple of others and then make a decision by the end of next week.

All is going pretty well....I had a few days away last week which turned out to be less expensive than I thought it would be :T and we are now at the end of the month and I have a total of £390 left out of the grocery and petrol jars to go to the mortgage!! :j:j:j

The self-care part of my challenge starts tomorrow - I am going to be gentle for the first couple of days (currently got a cold and feel a bit ropey so don't want to overdo it!) I'm still tired from the past couple of weeks so a weekend of relaxation, good food and plenty of water will be just the ticket ;)

    297 days to go......
  • Paid the 'leftover' cash to the mortgage so that's coming down nicely :D Our current mortgage deal ends at the end of this month so dh is going to work out if it will be better to go onto an SVR or get another deal and pay an early repayment charge (personally, I think that the SVR will be better as it will be paid off in 9 months ;))

House is still chaos but I'm pretty certain that it will be completed by the end of April - I am going to really concentrate on getting the staircase sorted in the next couple of weeks (along with the assembly of the wardrobes when they arrive!) and then it will just be the flooring and the doors to do :j

Self-care starts today - I've already had my first pint of water and am going to take some supplements in a minute - I am going to have a quiet day of relaxation, as much sleep as I can get as this cold is really affecting my sleep at night and an Epsom salt bath before bed. I've got salad for lunch and Mediterranean potatoes and vegan sausage and chorizo sauce for dinner.....I'm going to half my usual alcohol intake this weekend and then eliminate all workday drinking from next week. My body won't know what's hit it!!:rotfl:

  • Had a good weekend -- cut back all the debris in the garden, made a seitan casserole, morrocan lemon potatoes and red cabbage and apple all from stocks, had a few hours of total rest and relaxation :D
The mortgage is now down to under 14k (only just but woohoo!! :j) and we have decided that an SVR when the deal is done at the end of the month will work out better financially due to early repayment charges etc......it's nice to finally have clarity on what we are doing :D
I have everything I need food wise for the rest of the week - we need to buy some sparkling water, cow juice and soya milk but other than that, we should be good for groceries, dh is going to get those today so that will mean that the rest of the week should be NSD's.
Self-care wise, I still haven't really done much - this cold has just made me really tired so I decided that the gardening I did at the weekend will suffice for exercise and that I will start properly when I don't feel so much like a walking zombie! ;)
House hasn't really moved any further forward over the weekend - I really didn't feel like going out to look for tiles so we are doing that next weekend instead. We have got handles and magnetic closures now on the cupboards though, so at least that's one step further forward!

  • Thanks jodles!! :D

So, wardrobes are arriving next Tuesday :j this weekend we are sitting down and working out exactly what remains to be done - including all the little stuff- so that we have a firm plan of action! I want the whole caboodle sorted by the end of April - its very doable if we get organised ;)

I bought a few bits of shopping yesterday as I was passing sainsbugs (not something I do very often at all) and I really like their vegan greek style cheese so decided to get a few packets for the fridge - not on my plan but as they last for months and we do like the occasional pizza and a pasta sauce with it, it seemed better to get it without having to make a special trip ;) I also bought a packet of vegan mince - never seen it before and wanted to try it but that has come out of my persie money as its a want, not a need!

I need to update budgets as haven't done it this week - thankfully it won't take long but staying in control of them is an important part of my motivation :D
