What Sarah says! ---^^^^^ there is a whole thread on it - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3671735/new-power-of-attorney-guide - lots of DIY - its mainly about keeping it simple and having the right peopleI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

POA is much simpler than pensions. It just seems complicated because of how long the form is but most of it won't apply to your circumstances.*Dad loan - £5300 - £7200

Again, agreed. I read the thread, as I should probably do a POA myself - I think I'm at least 10 years older than you (no need to comment!!). It seems the trick is not to try and be too clever, but just get one in place because the way the law goes is that you can risk undoing the main intent by some side hustle that falls through (typically restrictions).
Most people seem to go for no restrictions (the law says spends have to be in the sole interests of the POA subject so just let that be enough rather than say no spending on booze, no extra gifts). Also remember it will be in place for a long time, so imagine when its 30 years on, would you really want a sibling etc to deal with it. Plus people generally do it so that each of your nominated people can act independently as making them all agree on anything is restricting, and when one of the group is unable or unwilling or dead then the POA falls through to the alternative which may not be what you want. (I'm not using the right language). So have a look at the thread and see which issues ring a bell. I could imagine that with children under 18 - do you include them or not, and do you put them at the same level as your OH or as deputies (??) - they will get to 18 before you are likely to need the POA

Thanks Mark, food for thought there. I'm a bit of a control freak so don't really like the idea of people making decisions for me, probably why I dither over a POADFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Busy few weeks, two kids' birthdays, back to school and now hols again.
Loving 3 days a week work... think I'll just do this until I retire
Money wise doing fine, just bobbing along.

Hope everyone is well, bit of a gap since last post
We've been bobbing along.... money wise, doing ok. I've been rubbish at updating my signature as we've been saving loads and my husband got a nice bonus. We've now got the following saved:
- £15k for renovations.... this will cover bathroom, windows, new front door and last few bits and bobs
- balloon payment.... bit of a drum roll moment.... OH has finally agreed to pay off his car rather than trading it in. Deal comes to an end in November and we've got money sat there. Happy times
Work wise... still loving the new job and NHS trust. Still a bit rubbish working during pandemic and wearing masks during 10 hour shifts etc, but relatively speaking compared to old role it's a 1000% better. Get occasional 10 min breaks, book AL when I want without a lot of hoop jumping, management treating me like a human and not a robot
