Ugh.... can't believe there's another full lockdown! Such a PITA (as you can probably tell, I'm not a fan!). It's tricky, because everyone will look at it from their own point of view... but ugh.
I can access key worker school as I work for NHS, I've bugsied my spaces, but while I'm at home I'll home school. Not because I want to (kids should be at school!) but to show willing. They're saying 3-4 hours a day, haha. Not a chance, mine will do 2 max.
Might prompt me to start my job sooner to avoid home schooling
New trust want me to go in to get vaccinated, not overly fussed. It doesn't stop you catching it or passing it on, so I'm not convinced. The symptoms I had when I had the virus in March were negligible... a few people I know that have had vaccine have had nasty side effects. Not tempting!
Saying that, we're emotionally blackmailed into having the flu vaccine every year, so I'll do as I'm told with C-19 vaccine. I'm just harrumphing
Such a grumpy post! I'm blaming 4 days of home school!DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

I'd blame the home schooling too. Can't be easy with so many kids home. I'm finding it hard enough with a 17 year old and 23 year old LOL.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

My attitude is that me and hubby need to work in order to feed and shelter our children. I work outside the house three days a week and hubby has back to back meetings most days so how are we supposed to home school as well? Big two can get on and sort themselves out, smallest has already picked a big project and I have spoken to the head about him doing that rather than the online stuff. As long as we send in progress pics etc should be fine. The alternative is he goes in and they have to implement his echp which is one to one the entire school day, so feel it's better all round for him to be home.
And my yr7 is on the spectrum and cannot access the online lessons without an adult. So he will be doing minimum. If there is a complaint and a request for him to go in as a 'vunerable' child I will push back about his anxiety I think. He will do work, but on my work days this will be at 3.30 when I get home.
I am also very grumpy about it all, and the hysteria over it on social media is ridiculous! I don't work, we don't eat. The end.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉5 -
4 children + home schooling + lockdown = perfectly good reasons to feel grumpy ☺️
Hope a glass or 2 of vino will help you relax tonight 🍷5 -
I think most parents - especially of young children are having similar issues. I am with you - for me working has to come first - not just for the money but to preserve my own sanity. That said my kids are much older and therefore it is simpler than if mine were still little dotsAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks everyone
Home schooling is going ok. I've decided to bring forward my start date to 2 weeks time.... new trust has agreed to keep the 6 weeks owed in hand and I can take it back when I want over the next 2 years. I'm thinking there'll be better times to have time off than in the middle of a lockdown!
Kids will go to key worker school on the 3 days I work, it'll be good for them. I don't like keeping them cooped up indoors.
Had my first vaccine dose on Friday, I felt really ill for a day or two afterwards.... full on flu symptoms and very tired, better quickly though luckily.
Money wise, all good, trundling along. No debt, but no savings this month either... recurring theme!

I think that's very wise to bank the holiday, get paid now for working and get paid later for being on holiday when its all a bit less gloomy.
Interesting about the jab - we're on schedule for April (over 50 but not significantly vulnerable) so lucky I have got plenty to do at homeI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

That's great news about your leave. We've been told to use it or lose it with ours which is frustrating. I think its good that kids can go in a few days, my nephew goes in Thursdays and Fridays and it's done him the world of good*Dad loan - £5300 - £7200
