Can't believe more could (and should) have been done to deal with this. Let's hope an armed drone doesn't come this way!

Thats very sad, made even worse by the fact the airlines wont compensate, can you change your holiday dates to go in jan so you dont lose everything

Sadly not - back to work in Jan, and the kids have exams. We have an offer of a full refund from the airline, but direct flights are now three times the price we paid when we booked in April, so that's not much help.

We've been frantically scrambling around for an alternative route, as we're due to see relatives out there for Christmas, and our travel agent has just found a route via Seattle and LAX - which doesn't sound much fun but at least gets us to the right place before Christmas, at not too terrible cost.

According to the BBC, EasyJet have just cancelled ALL Gatwick flights due to operate today.

Gatwick brought to a halt by toys. Not ready for the modern world then. However, stranded passengers are being offered 2 free faxes or telexes (I did not make that up).

Of course the publicity will encourage the same to happen to other major UK airports next.

The 'your passenger rights' bit of paper that I got offers me "two telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or emails", but, yeah.

Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, has just stated on the BBC that they are temporarily lifting night flying restrictions at other UK airports to try to help get people away/back. This is for tonight only.
