Rollovers do normally cost you something often at LIBOR+ (CityIndex used to do this when I used them I think).I believe what IG does is close your position at the end of the day then re-open it which essentially means you get hit by the spread again. Will have a look at the T's and C's but that would be a sufficient reason to use a trading ISA on its own.
My experience of IG is that you don't get hit by the spread again if your position rolls over.
Spread betting is like any investment, its only as dangerous as the way you use it and whether or not you know what you doing. For example it can be used as a prudent risk management tool.
In my experience, retail day traders never make any money. They don't have the resources or expertise.0 -

Yes and No.
Yes - if you use a credit account with no guaranteed stops.
No - if you use a limited risk account with guaranteed stops (but you pay the premium for the guarantee e.g. an extra 2 points on the spread for FTSE 100) and you must also have sufficient funds deposited to cover each bet (min bet on FTSE 100 is £2 per point with a 30 point minimum stop therefore requiring a deposit of £60) - however you could easily lose all of it.Credit card balance/availability: £1400/£21,000
Overdraft balance/availability: £0/£1,900
Current accounts cash balance (0.1%):£0
High interest account balance/availability £3000/£7000
Cash: £800 Pension: c. £6,400

I think for now I am going to stick to the feature about Halifax Martin talks about in his write up on Stocks, I could end up getting into a big expencive mess without really realising then.0 -
I wish to buy some shares, just small amounts, on the Taiwanese stock market. Who would you suggest is a cheap execution-only online broker since, Hoodless Brennan is no longer available.0

tdw does all sorts apparently, also etrade maybe. Cant say I have any experience myself, whats the company?0

You could always consider buying ADRs of the company in question.0

Well I managed to destroy my £150 profit from October over the past 2 weeks! P&L was up and down like a yo-yo on GBP/USD mainly and whilst most of my trades paid off and were well based, I lost because my stops were too short and I traded before a clear reversal in the channel I was trading had been made (hence sometimes incorrectly pre-empting the bottom).
Going to take some time off from it as I found it was consuming too much and will concentrate on longer term active investment through an S&S ISA. That is if I can actually open one - the problem with working abroad is not being able to receive post or complete paperwork! TD Waterhouse are refusing to allow me to email ID and Bills etc, had to be by post ... despite online application. Oh well, will try iii and see if they are a bit more up to date with Customer Service standards!Credit card balance/availability: £1400/£21,000

Hi, I used to have an account with Hoodless Brennan but now it has been transferred to TD Waterhouse.
I have recently been checking other brokers and found the halifax one fits me nicely. Can I switch easily and if so how would I go about it?0 -
