Recent rise has been to a few factors:

1. Iron ore priice recovering based on China growth plans
2. Nearby development belonging to Sundance Resources finally getting the all clear to be taken over by Hanlong. Should complete by March and gives the green light to infrastructure being built (railway) which Afferro will jump on.
3. Afferro has £90m (60p) in cash which is quite abnormal in recent times. This will enable them to be fully funded for 2 years.
4. We know of at least 3 potential bidders for the company or part of. IMIC have recently announed a proposal between 115 - 140p. Jindel have reported to have tabled a 130p offer. Afferro are currently in exclusive talks with one other until 13th Jan.
5. Many believe if Afferro are to be taken over that 150p will be the basment level and potentially anything over 200p is achievable. Current sp 103.5p
6. MRE test results due in Jan which should show what we have is even better.

Personally I hope we announce a JV rather than a takeover to fully exploit the potential here.

Good to see how it all ties in. Iron prices rising is benefiting me quite alot as I own so many miners, its kind of a benchmark

JV profits should exceed prices now I agree, in general the market is biased to bonds, debt not acknowledging how much money is going to be spent in future

I have £50 'ish spare p/m that i want to invest into a S&S isa.


cavendish is only for funds and not single stocks - correct?

If i want to hold single stocks & funds - any recommendations?

I use ii atm - but they have started to charge too much. Don't really want to have pay to hold my own stocks for an 'admin' fee.

(they charge £20 p/m!) so if im only investing a small amount it makes no sense

You are right about Cavendish, that's a question I asked them today. However, if you are investing £50 pm, any trade fees will really cut into it if you trade individual shares. I plumped for a HSBC tracker through Cavendish. There are no trade fees and I only have to pay 0.27% management fees.

50 quid is pocket lint.
You should be doing unit trusts, its far more suited to long term investment and cheaper on a percentage basis vs share fees

@Lentrix92. To answer your question directly try a good value execution only broker like Sippdeal or Hagreaves Langdown. I believe Sippdeal is supposed to be slightly better for shares, and HL slightly better for funds, however neither have the monthly fees for admin, etc, but each person has their own view. There are others as well.

These firms also offer "regular investment" at reduced dealing rates. I believe Sippdeal charges £1.50 per regular trade, and around £10 or £11 per normal trade (I forget the exact numbers).

Also a word of encouragement, I started investing £50 per month, many years ago now and it is a great way to start. It is probably best to start with a fund, but in due course don't be afraid to try some shares. The great thing in investing (even modest amounts) is that you will get the hang of investing, so when in future you find you may have more to invest, you will already have the confidence to know what to do.
