Could anyone recommend a decent broker for buying NYSE shares in the UK? (tax efficient, low commission)

Came across iWeb so far.

hi everyone,

i seem to remember that a stockbroker recently advertising it would refund your transfer out fees from your current broker to them but cant remember who it was,does anyone know which broker it was?

i am thinking of transfering to an admin/inactivity fee free broker for uk shares and mulling over which one.

Possibly Sippdeal but the offer was only for a limited period last month and is no longer available.

Quite a few of them will, check their websites and ring and ask.

Tax efficient? You would have to complete a W8-BEN form for US tax authorities to take their slice of dividends and capital gain (They may well be going up in January)

Also the FX conversion charges can be up to 1.5% each way unless you use TD Direct Investing and open up their multi-currency account
and transfer US Dollars direct to them. If using FX Broker commissions are not too bad and you leave the Dollars in the account when not holding shares to save on charges.

Alternatively Interactive Brokers have ultra-low FX conversion charges but have a £10k or $10k minimum account opening size.

How long do you intend to hold the US Shares for and what size deals? Then we could give you a more specific answer

hi all,

after reading this tread i have noticed a lot of people hold foreign shares.I am thinking of investing quite heavily in income yielding shares shortly but am only thinking in terms of UK ftse100/250 shares.
My question is are the people here who hold foreign shares do so because it pays higher yields than uk on average?otherwise what is the main attraction for holding foreign shares for those who do here?

You can use Foreign shares, funds, investment trusts and ETF's to diversify the risk in your portfolio. That would be my main reason for holding them.

Another way if you prefer holding UK shares is to select some that have exposure to foreign markets

Hi All - wishing a merry xmas

I am using Google Finance service from http://www.google.co.uk/finance and also a Google Spreadsheet using their =GoogleFinance(A6,"price") etc style API.

I noticed that some shares that I can find on the finance web site have prefix PINK etc and PINKSHEETS

e.g.
Roche Holding Ltd. (ADR)
(PINK:RHHBY

Anyone know what this means? I did google it, but it refers to some paper system that used to exist before electronic trading.


Also, rather oddly, some shares available on the google finance site, do not get found from the =GoogleFinance() API

Anyone else trying to use these tools?
