Share Dealing Discussion Area

Firstly, I hope this question is posted in the right area - my apologies if I have inadvertently made a mistake.

Sorry to be dense, but may I ask a stupid question please ? - share dealing is new to me.

Once you have bought some shares through a company (in this case 'Hargreaves Lansdowne'), is it possible to transfer those shares out of that company and into physical, paper shares that I can keep myself ?

I am running-up a lot of management fees without much in the way of activity (other than the normal operation of the purchased shares) and it seems a waste to me. If I could keep the shares on my own, I could avoid the on-going fees.

Could someone kindly give me the benefit of their great wisdom, please ?

HL would answer this. They reply very quick. You can deal in paper but it costs 15, 20 maybe 50 to do so and most people find it cheaper not to.

I intend to hold some shares on paper for a long time as it does basically cost nothing once you have it afaik. HL will transfer for a fee

I know this has probably already been talked about but i need help.
I have had shares with Santander sins they were Abbey National and have been looking at selling them but i have no idea were to start.
It is a paper based certificate for 100 shares.

Now is the worst time for many years to sell. If you try the santander registrar they'd confirm if the certificate is valid or not.

XO or Halifax will sell paper certs if you transfer it to an account with them.
Problem is selling spanish shares just now is terrible timing

(I see the CAD thread has disappeared, I assume some grumpy person got their way).

Anyway........ A second BoD resignation today, Alessandro Benedetti.

This not long after Barron resigned from the BoD.

Any thoughts as to reasoning behind all this, i.e. linked with ENI not taking up their option etc, etc. Alessandro works (??) for a large investment house I believe so is this material to their ongoing investment objectives with CAD?

Its dropped the price 5% on average volume, which is a repeat of its stagnation at 32p

Under what circumstances do you not pay stamp duty when buying shares?

Using my hl account I have been buying and selling a particular share frequently. To my surprise I did not pay stamp duty on several buys.

Is this because the buy/sell/buy cycle was within a certain period like the account period?

Its listed elsewhere in the world. You dont pay stamp on secondary listings only primary

OK they have their registered office in the Isle of Man. Is that the deal?

Seems odd we don't grab the stamp duty anyway
