  • Hi everyone and thanks for all the useful info.

I am wondering if someone could help me on that one.
Does someone know how many UK people have an online share trading/brokerage account?

    Thanks
 2014: £20 voucher from SurveyFriends, £10 cash payout from Panel Opinion too and working towards more from Valued Opinions currently.
2013: £35 and £50 vouchers from SurveyFriends! More than £15 made from other paid surveys sites (Yougov, Panel Opinion, Valued Opinions, Pinecone, etc.) Happy so far!

Most of my shares are (were) AIM listed but still held in an ISA.

The rules require a 'recognised' exchange. To find out if an AIM and foreign listed stock is permitted follow this link to the GOV website

You need to be specific; for example normally a stock listed on AIM and the Toronto exchange will be ok as long as it is on the main TSX and not the TSX.V venture or junior exchange. The same confusion can arrise with stocks listed in Frankfurt as they have a non-main exchange also.

Top 10 stock performers in 2010.
    Parkmead Group (The) PLC
    Condor Resources PLC
    Arian Silver Corporation
    Niche Group (The) PLC
    EnCore Oil PLC
    Red Rock Resources PLC
    Sunrise Resources PLC
    Nautical Petroleum PLC
    Premier Management Holdings PLC
    Beowulf Mining PLC

I've seen the last one mentioned a few times before on here. It seems this is just the beginning for them and they will grow a lot more this year as they are exploring some major resources.

I recognise / have looked at:

    Parkmead Group (The) PLC
    EnCore Oil PLC
    Red Rock Resources PLC

Parkmead is very fluffy. The price went up, none of their actual business has made any gains. Its perceived to do well in future

Encore north sea oil. Connected to premier oil, Questor tipped them. Should/could have invested, opps

Redrock is connected to rare earths which is a strange market. I'd take at least half of any profits here, I believe they have other business. nice prospect maybe but think I'd opt for Encore as the most deserving here

*** Aleoap wins the prestigious 2010 Annual Stock Challenge ***

Posted by Typo on 31/December/2010 at 14:10:

Exactly three quarters of the entrants returned a profit this year (90% last year) and Aleoap managed to achieve over 469%. Aleoap also put in an impressive perfomance in the 2010 monthly challenges, including winning the August challenge.

Anyone who lacked the vision, or perhaps luck (surely not?), to pick Condor Resources (CNR) wasn't in with a chance. The four entrants who selected CNR this year took the top four places.

Excluding the CNR effect Chumpal came 5th with 367% and Ged5 with 300%. Ged5 was one of just 26 entrants to be in profit on all five stock selections. The best worst pick award goes to Low Profile who made over 52% on their worst performing stock, West China Cement (WCC).

It's pleasing to note that the majority of us beat the main FTSE indices, although almost two thirds of us were beaten by the FTSE AIM All-Share index. However, that may not be a fair comparison, given that I'm not sure the index takes into account AIM stocks that are sadly no longer with us!

Very well done Aleoap. I will be in touch shortly regarding your one-year subscription to the Hemscott Premium Plus service, kindly donated by Hemscott.

The 2011 annual challenge and January monthly challenge remain open for entries until 6am Tuesday.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part during the year. Thank you once again to Hemscott for providing that extra incentive to win and to Tim (Stockchallenge) for continuing to host the site. I wish you all a healthy and successful 2011.

So I'm thinking of dipping my toes into the share dealing ocean..

I've been reading a few opinions on shares to watch in some of the broadsheet newspapers' money sections and am in the process of doing some research.

    Few questions:

    - As I am new to the game, and spreading cash over a number of stocks is advisable, would you suggest taking the x amount of £ I am starting with and spreading it equally over the 5/10/however many stocks I choose?

    - Re the above, what sort of starting fund is worthwhile?
