Narco, if it's sad for him, you could justify keeping it on the grounds that it's excellent exercise for his hands and his brain - if he has trouble getting a clean sound, trying lighter gauge strings and possibly lowering the action could make it easier for him, using part chords rather than full ones (add a £5 capo and that makes it easier, too), and looking at the style he plays, perhaps going for one that's slightly less 'fiddly' could work - OK, you might find yourself hearing the combined works of Nirvana or the Sex Pistols more than Cavatina - or rhythmic, Flamenco guitar more than Eddie Van Halen, but uncooperative fingers aren't always the end of playing.

He could also do a Keith Richards and tune to Open G - that just needs one or two fingers (or a slide) to make chords - or take off the low E and A to give him four strings to work with, tuned like a Baritone ukulele (add a capo at the 5th fret and it's the same as a soprano uke with a low G, rather than the usual uke re-entrant tuning) - or (and yes, as a bassist, this jars slightly saying it ) switch to playing bass, as it's a hell of a lot easier physically. Using a thumb pick like is used for banjo could make it possible to continue if grasping a pick or doing fancy fingerstyle is not working out well, too.

Without intending to sound mean, if Django Reinhardt could manage with just a couple of fingers pretty much welded together, somebody with slow, painful joints or lack of coordination due to other illnesses but all digits present and correct should be able to get a noise out that's still pleasing to the ear and the soul.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • Fluttering along here.

Mountain of washing slowly being worked through.
Urgent banking done but still need to update spreadsheets
    Xmas shopping almost done
Menus planned for holidays but still need to shop and cook ahead

And best of all coffee and tea drunk with friends in town followed by a wander around the shops with one of them. Great way to spend the afternoon. I feel much better for it.

Easy dinner out of freezer tonight as OH away.

Not working tomorrow or Wednesday and need to wait in for a delivery so hope to get ahead with house and holiday packing

Thank you for this week and last. I'm here and all behind. The house is a tip. Nothing new there.

Tomorrow is another day, so I'm starting again from the top of the list (fab list, Natty!) and I'll see how I go. DD has spent the evening decorating the trees (ashamed to admit that we have 3. It all seemed like a good idea years ago when we started this tradition!), so there are boxes everywhere, and we are doomed to spend the next couple of weeks shimmying around the house. A sight to behold with DH, who is not exactly shimmying material.

    Morning all.

It's blustery and miserable out, so I am glad that I have packed the troops out and I get to stay indoors!

Up and at it, although it's a struggle to get motivated. I am nibbling at the edges of the lists. WM on, DW on, ironing pile cleared. The freezer is the gift that keeps on giving, so dinner is yet again a mix of frozen packages to be turned into a culinary delight. There is still no room for any Xmas goodies, so I am resigning myself to giving up on that idea and trying hard to go with the flow. Why is that so stressful?!

Downstairs toilet given a s&s, but upstairs bathroom needs a proper clean. It's next on the list unless I can get suitably distracted.

Thank you for all that help, I showed it to Mr N and he said strange he was only thinking of Django recently! Incredible man. He had the action lowered a couple of years ago. It is on Gumtr$$ and if it sells he can always play with mine which is less of a lovely tone but nylon strings so easier on the fingers, tho sadly a wider neck. If he gets the urge we have range of recorders, clarinet and keyboard in the house too, and his brother has about 4 guitars! On an instrumental note, ha, I've just been told about a new aerobics class based (ha again) on drumming! It looks fantastic, I always regret turning down the offer of playing timpani at school.

Lists going reasonably well tho reports a struggle.
Enjoyed Hansel and Gretel last night.
Zumba next then finish flower arrangement for a friend, then visit friend.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
  • All horses seen to but off to shower and then cook lots of pizza for an Xmas party. Party finishes at 3 then clean up time and it'll be time to bring the horses in. Not sure there's going to be much flying today. :( I wish I had the energy and oomph to do it in the evenings.

Cleaned bathroom, dropped phone down toilet in the process. _pale_I only had it in there as I was moving from room to room and am forever lecturing DD about having her phone with her in the bathroom...phone now sunk in rice and everything crossed for its recovery :(
