Shopping sorted for the week. My local morrisions is having a refit and is randomly spitting out vouchers for points. If i spent 30 pounds a week for the next four weeks i will get nearly 15 pounds worth of more vouchers. Twins finish with the childminder soon so ill use the vouchers and buy her a resteraunt voucher as a thankyou. Other shopping will be sourced cheaper but i can easy buy 30 pounds worth of fair priced items cos we eat a lot. X
Two days since payday and the budget is intact. Not sure it will last as we are planning a trip out this weekend and i didnt factor in school photos or school sponsership for next week. Oops

Hello all. Good news. My debt is lower than yesterday and i had an email from the ombudsman to ask me to consent to things so they can investigate my complaint. Replied to say yes so hopefully the investigation has now begun.
Not so good news. The direct debit for my gas/electric went out yesterday and was 90 more than it should have been. No warning no nothing till i checked my bank account and realised i was in the ***
Ive rung them had words, swore, apologised for swearing then had more words.
We are a family of five. Children are still fairly young so not hammering the electric. I dont have a dryer, dont drink brews dont use hairdryer straightners etc but i am being told i have used 30 each week in electric for the last 3 months. Heating and hot water is gas. I appreciate we will use a bit more than most but ive lived there seven years and even the utility company agree my electric use has always been less than half that amount. Im getting a smart monitor installed so i can find whatever is in the house that is eating the electric and remove it. I have one but it doesnt work so i have ranted till i get another.
If anyone is reading do you know what you pay. Ive always spent 120-140 per month for gas and electric combined and survived the year without a massive debt. What they are saying is going to be a bill of over 200 a month and thats before winter kicks in. Im a bit panicked to say the least

Blimey, that is some big jump
I really hope that you can get it sorted out.

I live on my own & pay 100 a month for both.

Thanks beanielou. If i was at home with the littles i could understand but we both work full hrs now with my extra jobs and the littles are at school breakfast afterschool club/childminders etc.
Im going to be an energy nerd at home and turn everything off constantly. My new monitor is due on 29th july. It wont change the bill but i can watch it more closely with one to see if ifs true or a certain thing is causing it. I cant afford the increased d debit so have told them to lower it to 140 but if the cost is right i will have to seriously rethink. My childcare goes up again in sept as thet are all at school so its looking like ill have to lower my dmp offer again....

That's massive. Who are you with? I was with Eon before and paying £110 a month. I've just switched to Bulb and now paying £82 a month.

I had my bill yesterday after submitting readings and they say we used £43 of electric and gas last month. We submit monthly readings.

There are 4 of us, we don't waste electricity and gas, so turn things off as much as possible, but are happy to put the heating on if it's cold or use the tumble drier if it's wet.

Interesting figures jwill. Im with one of the big 5 as they say. think we waste some but arent excessive. Im going to ring them again to find out my rate p kwh and whether its the same price all day etc as the lady i spoke to yesterday has sent me a bill to cover 14th-30th june and it refers to day and night rstes.. it says ive spent 10 on gas and 59 on electric in 16 days. In winter our gas bill will be way way higher from experience for obvious reason which is why im getting worried about affirding my bills.
Think ill compare again and swap to another provider. If i do use that much energy of which im not convinced i need to make sure its at the cheapest rate as we arent doing anything that different to cause it to double. Ill still be an energy nerd as i need to check its not a specific thing or appliance

The plot thickens. On ringing to check standing charge rates per kwh and exit fee costs the person on the phone asked a few questions about whats going on and discovered im set up on a rate thats meant for economy 7 heated properties. Hes reworking all the bills since i started my supply with them. If i have the right end of the stick then it appears i have been charged aprox 4p per kwh thing too much for electric. Ill wait and see the reworked bills first as i dont completely get it.
No exit fee either so when i see the new bill and know if im still in debt or not i will leave.

As yet its saying im still 100 pounds in debt even after the massive d debit taken on monday. Its not displaying a copy of the revised bill yet though so who knows.
Ive organised a switch and will have left by 24th july. Ayro? Never heard of them but they have good reviews on the uswitch info and no exit fees so i can leave them too if they are pants. Standing charges and unit charges are less on paper so heres hoping my future costs are lowerx
