I noticed a strange thing in my local Tescos, in Cambridge...

Cops v Robbers playset, a 4 by 4 jeep with figures was on the shelf with a reduced sticker on it-get this!

    "reduced-was 9.99, now 9.97, save 2p"

doesn't the sticker cost more than 2p?

Anyway, I checked on the customer scanner and the toy came up as £6.97.

Result or what! Home my boy likes it!

:o I'm really sorry - I know this is really thick but I am still confused.
If I pick up a pack of say pork chops. On label it says £5.00/kilo but on shelf it says £4.00/kilo. It also states the total price on label at say £7.00/pack.
How do I know that it has overcharged me if on the receipt it only states the price for the pack? Do I need to take a calculator with me on each trip to check this?
    Thanks!
    :p

Hey lucky you added that LOL or I would be really offended! :p
But seriously - how do you work it out? Does it also print the price per kilo on the receipt or just the price per pack? Please help me!
    :p

The pack will always state the price per kg, you need to make sure that price is more than the price on the shelf-edge.

The total price for the pack is irrelevant.

    HTH.

I don't understand how it can be irrelevant. If I buy a pack at £5.00 on label and am charged £5.00 at till and it states £5.00 on receipt, how have they overcharged me?
I just don't want to get to CS desk and say they have overcharged me for them to get a calculator out and prove that they have not!
    Thanks! :o

    Ok.......

It's JUST the PRICE PER KG where the discrepency will be, so the TOTAL pack price (which depends on the weight of the goods, and so will vary from pack to pack!!!) is irrelevant.

This particular loophole does not involve fixed-price items.

This has really cheered me up. I thought I was old and a bit slow, but even I understand this.
So far refund on two packs turkey and a huge piece of cheese.
    Tastes better when it's FREE
    Thanks
got to go.....I'm off to Tescos.....again

Right, using your example, if the shelf ticket says £4/kilo, and you pick up an individually priced pack at £5, then you should be getting 1.25 kilos of meat. If however, the price on the pack is £5/kilo, then you're only getting 1 kilo of meat for your £5 and are thus being overcharged. You can check that they have actually priced the meat up using the higher price using a calculator if you want- but as nobody here has ever had the item scan through the till at the correct (I.E. shelf edge) price, it's probably not worth your while;).

So, look for items where the price per kilo is lower on the shelf than it is on the product, buy said products, get a refund on them. Simple:).
