Paracetamol to clean the iron? How does that work? Intruiging...0 -
Paracetamol to clean the iron? How does that work? Intruiging...
so if your iron has burnt fabric and black sticky stuff on the bottom of it, you can heat up the iron and rub a paracetamol tablet on the base of the iron. Then use a cloth to wipe off and it cleans the stuck on black stuff off. It kinda melts the tablet. I used two and while it's not as good as it would be if it was brand new it's no longer sticking. 5 minute jobDF as at 30/12/16

That's an amazing tip DNMS - I've never heard of it :money:
Evening everyone :hello: - I've made it to the end of another week, and now only 5 more get ups to survive. It's been a busy and strange sort of week... obviously with all of the home stuff going on as well as the kids being up the wall at school.
Met with the police last night to make a statement about ex. They have spoken to him and told him that if he comes to the house again then he will be arrested for stalking. Such a shame that it's all come to this. I wanted an amicable separation, but now I'm feeling really angry, scared and worried about the kids. Ah well - apparently I'm doing everything right.
Tonight is my works Christmas do. I've already binned off the big night out drinking but I did go to the meal after school - all you can eat buffet during happy hour so quite mse, and no alcohol at all. Now I'm at home, in my jammies and slippers desperate for a good night's sleep and a long lie in tomorrow. Heating is on, but it's very cold outside so I'm ok with that.
Not sure of weekend plans. They will be weather dependent - I'm in an amber weather warning area for much of the weekend so it may well be a case of batten down the hatches and enjoy a festive weekend with the kids. That will be nice anyway - time for festive sweetie making I think. Not giving up

That's so funny as I just thought everyone knew this! - although admittedly I do hang around in sewing circles so probably a bit niche! :rotfl:
After my post I relooked at the iron and I got to say it's pretty darn close to perfect
Today:
* madam going to swimming with dd and then off to see Santa
* we've got friends coming, taking pup for a walk, stop at the pub mid way for a cheeky pint then coming home for lunch
* having steak ciabattas, salad, crisps and want to make some hummous
* finish taking in trouser - did all the pinning and marking yesterday but I felt poorly so didn't push myself
* knitting & sewing later on
* get xmas tree & decs out of the loft
* clean bathroom before friends arrive!
* contact bff to see if she wants to come over this evening/tomorrow am. Looks like her and her husband are separating
* cut massive 2.5kg joint of beef into 3 smaller joints and freeze
Ok better start getting ready. Hope you all have a great day xDF as at 30/12/16

Morning all :hello:
Top tips as always from this thread. Who knew
I managed a decent night sleep last night even after 40 winks on the sofa about 8 o'clock so feel much better today. My list today will include:
Small shop at sm, stick to list, use moc
Triage fridge
Try and wrap all my gifts
Quick tidy round, clean bathroom
Sort out 2 full bags of old Christmas cards. I use them for tags but we get far more cards than we send gifts, so we now have massive bags of them. Will recycle the unsuitable ones
Make sausage rolls
Make some cake/ flapjack type thing
Watch something with DH tonight
Washing shuffles
Walk later with friend
Think that'll do for now, have a good day everyone. Purps.0 -
Morning everyone
Still reading along when I can
DNMS will def be pinching ur idea to clean up my own iron:)
CCL I hope things calm down with ur ex. Been there, quite a few years ago now but it is scary:(
Just waiting on more test results, going to take a tin of biscuits into the doctors to say thank you. They must be fed up of seeing me by now.
Have been trying to keep the money saving faith.
Picked up a few presents for 2019 at bargain prices. Always do a price check before I buy (even working out whether I could get them cheaper in the sales) as i want to get the most for my money. Also a couple of items picked up for charity auctions next year. All tucked away yesterday.
I set a budget for presents every year but some of the presents I've got have been crazy bargains so I'm thinking of reducing my present (Christmas and birthday) budget next year for a challenge:beer:
All DDs birthday presents bought aswell. Have to get early as once she goes back to uni after Christmas I wont see her for awhile so they have all been bought at bargain prices, all more practical items and one real surprise item I think she will be chuffed with. Plus I currently have 54 toilet rolls sitting in my living room ready for her next term:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
DawnW I also have been having alot of RM items to post but only 2 items next week plus work is winding down so I am planning a quiet week.
Everything ready foodwise for Christmas except for the fresh stuff now. Hoping to get some bargain price packs of veges. Not gone overboard on food this year as it just doesn't get eaten.
At an event tonight, will call into Tesc@ on the way home and stock up on cat food tins to last thru Christmas, its still alot cheaper to get from here.
House needs a good tidy and clean. Plan to keep plodding on with this tomorrow, decluttering has come to a standstill
Cant think of anything else, I'm sure there is. Have a great day everyone xDecluttering challenge 2023🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Morning all
Wet, cold and windy today (I gather much worse in Northern areas, but pretty horrible) and OH has already lit the stove. Dog has decided that a walk is currently out of the question, though I will be taking him if it stops raining at some point.
Today's list:
Half a shrivelled apple with breakfast
Lunch bits from home
Going to see DS after lunch to give him GD1's birthday card - I have put money in it, and so didn't want to send it by post. He will be seeing her next weekend, if not this. A present I sent for her birthday last year never arrved
Food shopping after seeing DS, so we only need to go out onceWas originally going this morning, but the weather put me off!
I have the new chairs in situ, and they look big  I have had to move a small (but heavy ) cupboard upstairs to make enough space to walk around them properly. Did I mention I have too much furniture?I have however identified a chair that can be sold and thus got out of the house, so a small win
Still need to do 'Christmas' food shopping, buy a couple more presents and write and post the dreaded Xmas cards.0 -
Well I have had a busy and productive day, but the rain has now arrived and I'm well and truly staying indoors tonight.
Up and about early, treating me and bestie to a free coffee using the points on my card - then went over to hers for a good natter and catch up. Then home to do some more present wrapping (I have to do it in small bursts as I hate it so much). Then had a go at making fudge, which went wrong. It's turned out like tablet - which is fine because it tastes good, but I don't think it's a good present...I've made a big tray of rocky road as well which looks ok. I'll see if I dare brave fudge another day or if I'll just give up.
Also got an unexpected visit from a good friend who lives over an hour away. Turns out she was in the area shopping, so she popped in, and it was really lovely to see her.Not giving up
