    Morning everyone!

    Update from yesterday:

    - meal plan using as much as possible from stores (honestly we may resort to "breakfast for dinner" at some point this week) half done, ran out of enthusiasm a bit
    - do balance transfer onto shiny new 0% card :money: done :D
    - find where I stashed the Christmas cards and stamps from last year :money: half done - found the cards and updated the list, just got to find the stamps now...
    - calculate OH's share of the Crimbo food/booze spend (he's offered bless him, even though he's on tree duty. We've been very effective at decluttering our booze stash lately, so I have spent a bit to re-stock ready for guests) done
    - TAKE METER READINGS (feel we're being very energy spendy at the moment :() done, we're under the estimate on elec and about right on gas, so gas needs to come down a bit :rotfl:
    - update my finances spreadsheet done

    Today:
    - find the stamps
    - finish the meal plan & add any top ups to tomorrow's delivery
    - meals and snacks from stores
    - gym AM so as not to waste the membership
    - call doctor to book appointment
    - declutter burgeoning basket of doom in the sitting room
    - empty bins and put out for collection tomorrow
    - check christmas bin collections
    - check dog food supplier's christmas closing days and whether we've got enough dog food to last through to new year

Have a good day everyone :)

CCL - Re mincemeat......mine never even gets any cooking. It goes like this......put all ingredients in a bowl, mix together, add alcohol, mix again, pack it into jars & seal until ready to use.

    Hello Tuesday Savers,
Busy day so far. Money saving bits as follows:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Use-it-ups - hand cream cut open for last application, extra tomato added to recipe because it was getting distinctly squishy.
*Wrapped 2 home made gifts in recycled wrappings from my stash. Had to cut down another bottle bag to make a gift bag the right size......am a dab hand at this now. Only requires a ruler, scissors & hole punch.
*Am cutting all stamps off Christmas cards we receive to save for the RSPB albatross appeal - hope they are still doing this. I'll find out. If not, there's always a charity looking to raise funds from old stamps.
*Bake granary loaf - on its 2nd proving atm.
*Mix up a sourdough to bake tomorrow - want to have enough bread to take some with us on our little break.
*Dinner in slow cooker - smoky beans & sausages - really easy & if I dish it up & not mr f, lol, I'll get a portion for the freezer too.
*Did 2 Prolific surveys - sadly the £15 one was already full up.
*Did some planning for our mini-break - what clothes to take, ditto food, sensible bits & pieces for walking around stone circles at night....torches, phone chargers, warm clothing, etc. Also pack road atlas as mr f relies completely on satnav on his phone, which is really good, but nothing is a substitute for a good road atlas in emergency situations. As ever, good planning saves money as we don't end up buying what should have been essential kit while we're away.
*Lined cake tins with re-used baking parchment - surprising how many uses can be had from this, as long as it isn't soggy.
*Managed to get an hour of laundry on cheap tariff before it switched over to daytime rates. All on heated airer. It's a nice sunny day, but cold & I can't risk stuff we want to take with us not drying in time.
    *Mended 2 pairs of tights.
*Wrote list of jobs to do in town tomorrow morning. Arranged mr f to drop me off so I can also do secret birthday things without him lurking - he has eyes in the front, back & sides of his head!!
*Check ebays - I don't think I have any more sales, but I need to check I don't go away leaving stuff unposted.
*Reconciled CC statement with receipts. Everything as it should be. Receipts composted.
*Finish audiobook & start a bag of library returns
I hope to knit later & read a bit more of my book. The most important thing is getting the laundry dry so that we can pack. Oh....& you'll be impressed with this one. Mr f used to collect postcards of special places. A while back, he cleared out his stash & gave me loads for letters, competitions, bookmarks, etc. There were still several lovely ones of the place we are going in my writing box so I'm packing them!! We always send a few cards to family & friends & I can't see the point in buying more while I have these already, so I'm taking them with me! I know that sounds tight, but I just hate being wasteful. I look at everything as a potentially useful resource these days.
    OK, must crack on.
Hope you're all having a good day.
    F xx

    Afternoon folks

A bit of a late one from me as I've been catching up with myself all day. I forgot to set my alarm and OH woke me up at 8am
I normally get up at 5.45am to be at my desk for 8am so this was a bit of a lie in! Didn't feel too bad about it though as I'd been in til 8.30pm last night and I was at my desk for 8.45am.

Felt quite proud of myself as resisted buying food on the way in last night and whipped up a quick curry instead.

    Today's mission:
    • B/L/D from stores - done
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • Gym at lunch time - done
    • No alcohol (and have taken medication so def not) - done
    • OH to do housework - done
    • Crochet nan's scarf - done
    • Write Christmas cards
    • Waterproof shoes
    • Heating low/off - done
    Have a good one all

  • Evening all :hello:
Bagged another nsd today. Plus found 20p roadkill on my classroom floor. Plus got a free bacon and egg sarnie for my lunch from the lovely lady who runs our cafe.
I am, however, completely exhausted and very stressed out. I woke up at half past one to the sound of what I thought were fireworks outside the house. Came down to let the cats in and who is standing on my doorstep? Ex. Drunk. Turned out the noise was him throwing bricks and rocks at the house. Rang the police but he was gone by the time they arrived with me and they couldn't find him. I've made a statement but I didn't get back to sleep last night at all, and I'm worried about the kids - they both saw what was going on.
However, I survived at work so I will remain pleased about that.
Also wonder if I dare try making my own mincemeat then... I'll put it on my list of things to try.

Sorry to hear about your awful night CCL :(
Spendy day today as I have done some of the Christmas gift shopping. Managed to get a couple of things on the high street, but drew a blank on other, quite mundane things, and had to resort to Amazon and Ebay. Still got a few more bits to get, but nearly there :)
Annoyingly, my elderly microwave died last night, so I had to replace it. Got one in Sainsburys, and was able to put £40 of Nectar points towards the £55 cost, so only £15 cash spent. Could have done without that though!
Received an email reminder to pay OH's tax bill, so logged onto HMRC's web portal and saw that he owed £94.40. Checked the figures, and it was right :( Paid it, to avoid it being forgotten after Christmas and incurring a fine. My own account, thankfully, is clear.

Not much else got done though:
Posted an ebay item and the overseas Christmas cards :)
Got 4 kitchen rolls for £1 in one of the pound-ish shops in town :)

Checked banks, noted all spends in diary but haven't updated the spreadsheet yet.
Load of washing semi dried on the line, must get that on the airer to finish off overnight.
Still using up the sandwich bits bought at the weekend for lunches
Used up some leftovers for dinner (we shared a gammon steak, and had bubble and squeak, grilled tomato, mushrooms, eggs and half a tin of lurking baked beans with it. Not mega healthy, but not massive portions and at least there were plenty of vegetables involved!
OH is going away for a couple of days tomorrow, to see his sister up North. I shall remain here with the dog. OH wanted us both to go and take him along, but his sister, although I am fond of her, is the most house proud and fussy woman I have ever met, and I just don't need the stress at the moment! Anyway, the sofa is supposed to be going tomorrow afternoon, and a freecycler is coming to pick up some garden pots in the morning.
I have packed OH's sis's birthday present, and written family Christmas cards for him to take with him. I have plenty of free RM surveys stamps to use for Christmas posting, but he may as well take them along as he is going anyway!
