  • I'm absolutely frazzled but apart from one parcel and the tree to go up I'm ready for Christmas:T allowing me hopefully to have a quiet week.

Even if DD and i were totally stuck on Christmas day, I could do a dinner except the turkey would have to be a burger or sausage:rotfl::rotfl: but I could make a dinner.

Stocked up on fresh stuff at Tesc@s after event last night. Bought extra bec it was only 29p and I want to get some soups and a curry made this week. It was lovely and quiet

It is impossible for me to get the 19p veg offer as Alde in the next town, it is difficult to get to (located more for the students) and into the town itself the week before Christmas. Just not worth it.

Seem to have spent a fortune, I haven't just spent extra for stuff to last after Christmas aswell and for DD coming back home.

Picked up DD birthday present today, they had the bakery cookies reduced to 10p a pack, picked up 3, portioned out and popped into the freezer.

Plodding along slowly with the housework. It is so dark, damp and miserable here, makes u not want to do anything.

Sorted out some paperwork this morning. Trying to tie up as many loose ends as possible.
Need to finish hoovering upstairs in a minute and then plan to rest up the rest of the evening

Hope everyone is having a good day x

    Afternoon / evening all :)
Cold, wet and miserable here too HK :(
Discovered that the stone that hit the car windscreen yesterday early evening had in face made a chip and a star crack - blimmin tractors :(
I can probably get it fixed rather than replaced, but could do without the additional hassle
    Must look into this tomorrow.
Other things for today - curling up by the wood stove mainly :o
Went to a market this morning, got cheese and Spanish sausage etc (lots) for £10. Don't need much more on the food side for Christmas now, just fresh stuff. Still have a couple of presents to sort though, and the rest of the dreaded Christmas cards.
Labelled up some items to take to my sales unit :)
Business paperwork and spending diary done :)

All meals from home, got a steak and kidney pie base out of the freezer, added a bit of the stilton I bought this morning and topped with bought puff pastry - I make my own shortcrust but cba to do puff :o Used the offcuts of the pastry to make 3 little tart things, cut up into oblongs, spread with jam and topped with half an apple from the fridge which I sliced thinly. These will do for pudding with the last of the cream :)
Will be an early night I think, as I didn't sleep too well.

Got the Christmas cards written, addressed and stamped up (with free stamps from RM surveys), all ready to post tomorrow :) One thing sorted at least!

Paracetamol to clean the iron? How does that work? Intruiging...

Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Aspirin are all mildly acidic. They also have a mildly abrasive consistency in tablet form. Ideal, therefore, for cleaning off burnt fabric and mineral deposits.

You can also use salt, beach sand, toothpaste or bicarbonate of soda on a cloth, taking advantage of their abrasive nature.

If you buy Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner from Lakeland for £7 essentially what you're getting is a stearic acid and silica (an ingredient of sand).

If you wish to descale the iron use something acidic: citric acid, lemon juice or vinegar. This will react with the alkaline limescale to disperse it. Wash really well afterwards. Theoretically you could use tinned tomatoes too....

  • Ally Thank you for the scientific explanation of cleaning the iron with paracetamol. As soon as I started reading I started smiling, thanks for both the knowledge and happiness you are sharing :A
