Dunstable is part of the Luton-Dunstable-Houghton Regis conurbation. All joined together. HR has little to recommend it, Dunstable is probably the nicest of the 3, but is not particularly attractive. If you can afford it, look at villages such as Caddington or Totternhoe. Studham/Kensworth/Whipsnade are nice but expensive
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    Budget?

Think carefully about your commute time.

What do you want from a place in terms of local facilities,
  • Thank you for your replies. I'm on my own so my budget is not great, 260k. That's why I can't afford to buy near work :). I have looked at the commute time and it would take about half an hour from Dunstable. I went to Dunstable to spend a few hours and found it was run down but I guess a lot of high streets are like that. And it doesn't help that im in st Albans everyday , so the comparison is a bit unfair. I have considered the villages but very expensive .

What is more important to you in the locality?

    Peace and tranquility?
    Good shops and bars?
    Mosque church and synagogue?
  • What is more important? I would say tranquility, green spaces to go for walks and maybe bike rides, nice coffee shops, friendly atmosphere and people :) I don't like big cities :)

    Do you drive?

When you say you don't like big cities - what size of place do you have in mind? Village - say 2,000 or less. Small town - say 5,000. Larger town - say 15,000, etc.
  • Yes I drive.
  • I would say I wouldn't want to live in London, that's what I would call a city. A place where it is very hectic, where people live on top of one another, where it's noisy with traffic all the time
  • Could you afford something in Harpenden?
