Slight aside to our payments - has anyone on here considered how to reduce the redemption fee and admin fee when paying off your mortgage? We stayed with friends at the weekend who have left their mortgage to run its full course and pay 42p a month.

Just saw this today. I'm in a position where I've locked myself into a 5 year mortgage deal (we were worried about the uncertainty around Brexit and decided to go for a 5 year fix rather than do a two or three year deal and need to remortgage in the middle of it all). I have two mortgages, £13k and £5k on another. I am overpaying the larger one and hope to get both to around £5K by the end of the year.

That leaves £10k to pay off before August 2022 and I'm planning on having it down to £600 before my 40th birthday in 2021 and then just paying £50 per month for that last year. I don't know if I'd leave it as low as 42p, just in case I manage to overpay too much by accident!
