Christmas pudding shower cap!!!! Wow, how thoughtful of them. Bin is the only option.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Isn't secret Santa meant to be a bit of fun?? .... why would anyone be disappointed in their gift ... whether its rubbish or not, some people really do lack a sense of humour

It wasn't meant to be a joke Secret Santa, out of 14 of us 11 got lovely presents and 3 got nasty, cheap tat. If you'd spent £15 and bought some nice things would you really think a Christmas pudding shower cap was great?

One of the teams where I work did a £5 secret Santa charity shop.
I thought it was a great idea, even if it was tat, at least it was to a good cause. Plus with the charity shop you might get great value for your £5. And it’s green!

The problem is the budget, making it £15 changes the dynamics and causes the problem. £5-£10 max .... then it matters less what you get

£5 is more throwaway, I still think unless it is set up as a joke secret santa you would get something nice, even jokey things can be nice and if you actually spend the £5 and someone gives you something that obviously cost £1 you would still think that wasn't in the spirit of the thing.

My current office don't do a secret Santa, but a previous office did. I had to pick for a lady that was part of my section and I took ages getting a bottle of wine of a type she liked in an off license that luckily had it on offer then a Terry's Chocolate Orange to make up the last bit of money (yes, that bit was a cop out but who doesn't like a Terry's? :D) and she whinged that the person who got her it had put no thought into it :( I didn't partake in SS again after that.
  • We did our secret santa today

I dont normally 'do' Christmas, but wanted to enjoy the office fun

It was really lovely. Everyone was smiling, and a really fun thing to do for a few quid (even though I am a christmas grinch)

PS one person opted out, but once again no one was offended or gave it a thought whatsoever, other than me typing this lol

Oh dear that is awful, I can see why you opted out. Your present was very thoughtful for secret santa

I know the person who got my present enjoyed it, I saw him playing with it and having a few laughs. In my workplace it is more fun, jokey things that people get, no one really takes it seriously, but I was over the moon with my gift
