We have tried to make it easier for everyone to find the things you need but we can see this might be a bit confusing as it was all done at the same time. We do hope that you all like the indexes (indices?) and that they make it easier to find things, even if they do take some getting used to. We will leave the indexes as stickies and will continue to keep them updated (i.e adding new recipes to the recipe thread) but we promise not to do any more indexes or changes unless requested by someone up on high
Old style always has been a friendly board but it is meant to be full of tips about old style ways of doing things (as you all know). If the phones board was to get chatty we feel the Abcons would step in and delete the posts, we feel we 'get away with it' to a certain extent 'because it's old style'. There is already a board for chatting i.e. The Arms, I know many of you don't like it in there because you feel you would be laughed at discussing what you had for dinner in there so we set up the coffee shop but unfortunatly, even the coffee shop has to be along general old style lines otherwise the Abcons might close us down because there is already a board for chatty posts.
I know it feels like, just recently us board guides have been getting bossy, but, just lately the board is getting more chatty and, unfortunatly we can't be an old style version of the arms because the Abcons would step in.
If you all promise to keep the tips flowing, along with the chat, we (your board guides) promise to stop being bossy.

Site rules are site rules, surely if all BG's made their own rules for each board, no-one would know what was allowed where, everyone would be very careful not to chat and the whole site will lose it's friendliness.

I guess you mean this bit:
The MoneySaving A to Z
For the complete MoneySaving A-Z by sra Click
If so, it links to sra's A-Z. It is not different. It is the same. It is just that some people only post in old style and we wanted to draw there attention to sra's A-Z.When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -

I think that's going a little bit OTT to suggest Abcon have the time or inclination to read through the threads to delete "chatty" posts, after all this is what makes this site so friendly and welcoming to everyone, and is certainly what attracted me to it. Their job, as far as I'm aware, is to deal with abusive posts or those that break site rules
I've been part of many forums and groups over the years which usually end up cliquey and backstabbing but I've never come across anything like that at all here, despite having the highest number of members I've ever known on a forum.
I'm not a BG, nor would I want to be one, so I'm not au fait with all the rules and guidelines you have to adhere to, and I was merely commenting on the oppressive atmosphere here of late whereby I've often been too scared to post something for fear of being reprimanded, and I know I'm not alone in that.
I fully understand the reasons to keep on-topic where possible, and I'm sorry that I that I often break that 'rule', but it's far from intentional and is usually to do with the general flow of conversation in a thread, as happens in real life

Don't you DARE!!!
I can see what YOU mean, CQ, and I can see what Squeaks and Galtizz mean. I haven't been here that long myself, and I do think this is one of the friendliest forums I've ever attended, especially when it's not moderated as such. But all 3 of you have been most helpful, friendly, supportive, and filled with tons of advice.
The guides clearly have to pull us into check every so often but, let's face it, they're often as bad as the rest of us! But I think they'd both hate it if you left us.
So stop this talk now, perhaps agree to differ - occasionally - and poke out your tongue at them if you think they're getting too oppressive. They might not see you but you'll feel a hell of a lot better!spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Don't you dare disappear CQ, this board wouldn't be the same without you
Post and be dammed and if it gets deleted so be it. Most of us will have seen it first

Please don't take offence at my post, It isn't supposed to cause offence.
It isn't so much that the abcons read every post (I know they don't have the time). It all boils down to you can't please all of the people all of the time. As Squeaky has already said One of the main complaints is about so many chatty posts to read through to get to the tips. If someone feels there complaints are being ignored they may decide to report it to the abcons.
We are trying to keep everyone happy by keeping the main threads on topic and the coffee shop for any light discussions in a generally old style theme. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
I think the trouble is that first we were given the Coffee Shop to take our gossip off the main board and now we're being told that when we post in the Coffee Shop we have to make it relevant to old style so we still have nowhere to sit and gas bagOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

OK let me try and explain this please.
There already IS a place to gas bag and that's The MoneySavers Arms.
The Coffee Shop cannot be like The Arms. The Coffee shop is intended to allow a freer more chatty approach to Old Style topics. But if it becomes a free chat area... well we already have one of those, so it will be seen as a duplication and closed down by the moderators. In order for it to work it must stay Old Style.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I'm not offended at all and glad of the opportunity to discuss this in the open and hope we can all work together to keep the board as friendly and informative as it always has been.
I think I'd struggle to leave it anyhow as I'm just too addicted:j
I know we can't please all of the people all of the time and for every complaint there is about chatty posts there's another one complaining about it being too controlling, so I guess we just have to try and strike a happy balance to suit the majority
Speaking personally now, I do often become paranoid that maybe I post too much, or inappropriately at times, but that's something I have to try figure out for myself but on the whole I do try to stick to the 'rules' so as not to upset people"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
