Cheers, that explains it then as I've had that happen before and wondered what happened to the threads :o

I PM'd the originator to let them know their thread has moved. I suppose, now that we have the coffee shop I could "Announce" such changes in there. It would certainly save starting a new thread to say "I have moved... etc..." Bumping such a thread doesn't always work if the OP isn't on line very often.

I'm sure it'll be fine as it is as the link you gave in the Welcome thread will direct people to it anyway, as I found when I posted just to see if it would re-appear LOL!

Personally I don't have the time to read through the coffee shop and please remember that when people are getting used to posting, they aren't always aware of what a PM is, let alone where it is!!!!

Can't we just leave the posts for a little longer....I'm thinking weeks/months rather then days....is it just me that's getting tired, confused and lost trying to find posts etc that I've read before?? I still find the Fridge cookies via a post that someone else asked for it!! Not where it is actually listed.....

That's certainly true and it took me ages to notice I had PM's in my inbox when I first started out here but I've since discovered how to get email notification to tell me one's arrived, assuming I have Thunderbird loaded at the time that is LOL!

Squeaky, please don't take this the wrong way as it's meant as constructive criticism, but I think maybe you're moving just a bit too fast for a lot of people. While both you and Galtizz are doing a great job in stream-lining the board and providing the indexes which are a great help to everyone, you have to remember there are people here aren't so au fait with the site, or even PC's and the internet in general, and are getting a little confused with all the sudden changes that have occured.

We also have the occasional posters, who maybe only look in when they receive the weekly email reminder, so just don't have the time to go through the numerous amout of threads and posts that accumulate in that time.

I've said it you before, and I think it still applies to an extent, that things are becoming rather too controlled here, and on occasion even slightly oppressive, so much so I was thinking of putting in a request to re-name this board Old Style Bootcamp LOL! ;)

I don't want to put a damper on the excellent work you're doing but I do think a few things need to change slightly :)

To get e-mail notification, go to THIS page (if that doesn't work for you it is edit profile)
and make sure there is a tick in the last box of the Messaging & Notification box (Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up)

Then it comes up on the screen, you have new message, saves you having to watch the message change from a 0 to a 1.

    HTH

Thanks to Squeaky for showing me how to do that, I've been on here since before the new board and I didn't know how to do it.

EDIT: sorry C_Q we cross posted, please don't think I'm ignoring your post, you all type so fast I can't keep up 1/2 the time and I'm always cross posting, sorry.

Yes there's a toggle switch in the User Options (third section down, I think) that lets you have an email or even to have a little window open up right here in MSE to tell you that you have a PM. Both options are switched OFF by default. One of them ought to be defaulted to ON, I reckon.

We haven't moved any of the indexes or collections. What we've done is to collect similar threads into a single sticky and then unstick the originals. The originals haven't been moved or changed - all your earlier bookmarks will work just as they always have. But now, If they don't show on the top page they can be easily found by using the new stickies. One for the Collections and another for the Challenges.

Right. That's why I'm still here and not swanning off somewhere else. Every change takes a little getting used to - but as I said a moment ago - we haven't moved anything at all. Just "collected" things. Every thread you ever bookmarked is right where it always was. But if you need help finding something all you have to do is ask :)

We also have the occasional posters, who maybe only look in when they receive the weekly email reminder, so just don't have the time to go through the numerous amout of threads and posts that accumulate in that time.

One of the main complaints about so many chatty posts to read through which is exactly why the coffee shop was opened.

I've said it you before, and I think it still applies to an extent, that things are becoming rather too controlled here, and on occasion even slightly oppressive, so much so I was thinking of putting in a request to re-name this board Old Style Bootcamp LOL! ;)

And other people have complained that it's Camp Freebooter! I figure if the number of complaints about strictness are roughly equalled by the number of complaints about laxness I'm more or less in the right area. Ish. It needs fine tuning, I know - I'm still learning.

I don't want to put a damper on the excellent work you're doing but I do think a few things need to change slightly :)

    Give it time :)
