Many doctors in hospitals, too, are now Indian or Middle Eastern.
How do you know that they are Indians from Indians or their racial profile is Indian but they are British (born and raised in UK)?
In my experience, they are both types of Indian doctors in UK.
When Indian doctors (from India) come their qualification does not usually equate with UK qualification. Hence, they need to go thru in job training few years and sit exams to become at per with UK/EU qualifications.
The fun bit is that, doctors coming from India (or from anywhere outside EU for such) don't usually come burdened with student loan (like home students). While foreign (non-EU) doctors still have to go thru some additional exams, in the end they are financially better off because of no loan burden.
The high cost of medical education puts lots of home students off the medical profession. Which in turn, requires lots of foreign doctors to be imported and the cycle continues.
The authorities (MPs, management) always think short term and never tries to solve the root cause of labour shortage problem - especially in highly skilled jobs like medical profession.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
The Indian dentists are good, but they are in it for the money, setting up 'Smile' businesses and the like.
Surely not some altruistic sense to improve the oral hygiene of the UK population.
Aren't all of us in work for the money?
We only work to keep us in the manner we have become accustomed or wish to achieve. Once we achieve and are comfortable do we not re-assess and consider if we can reduce our obligations? See comment about NHS doctors retiring @50 above.
Anyhow when does the pantomime start again so we can get back to the will/they won't they farce?0 -
Since my dentist (english) retired after problems with his hands, all my dentists have been (british born) asian, several different versions but certainly no Polish or other European. This would appear to be dependent on where in the UK you are based.0

We should be encouraging the young and brilliant to be doctors and engineers and such like by paying for their tuition and even paying a retainer during their academic/university training period. This comes with a commitment to say 10-12 years within the NHS or whichever field they go into.
Why can't medicine, including nursing, and engineer based jobs critical to effective operation of a progressive nation all be part of the modern apprenticeship scheme?
Get a job. Get paid. Get qualified.
With a Modern Apprenticeship you learn on the job, and get the experience you need. Plus, you work towards a qualification. Whether you’re thinking about the future, job hunting, or want to learn new skills, a Modern Apprenticeship could be for you.0 -

Because for too long we have been concerned with individualism and the idea that equality means treating everyone the same. Instead of looking a talented young person and investing in the potential good they can bring to society in the future by use of subsidies or such like, we get fed lines such as "Those that don't benefit from a degree shouldn't pay for it," although I think this is absurd I can see why people could support that idea at its face value. Anything to keep tax low I guess.0 -

Labour will say it discriminates against those who are studying useless degrees as media studies, how to claim benefits while doing nothing, the art of getting offended for nothing etc.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
I wouldn't say media studies is useless. I can't confess any knowledge about it but there must be pretty similar learning outcomes to other arts degrees. It's probably likely that graduates of this degree would not continue a career in studying media but would get a job elsewhere. It's a bit like saying high school geography is useless for the vast majority of students as it's likely we are not geographers.
That said some skills and knowledge are more important than other's at the current time. That is where you should incentivise. But I also don't like the idea of just dismissing the arts as unimportant. I suppose we're too busy being wage slaves to appreciate them. So in summary I'm not sure what I'm saying. LOL0 -
I'm also going off on a tangent from the thread, sorry.0

There won't be another referendum, the people have voted and a majority decision was made, which won, that is called democracy, which all English people used to have and were proud of, it made us civilised society and we were admired all around the world
The undemocratic in our society now want another vote, What?? can you imagine contestants in come dancing refusing the democratic decision of the judges and demanding another vote, if that ever happened.... anarchy wins
The treacherous MP's and undemocratic vested interests have seriously weakened our negotiating hand and for that we will get a rotten deal where a No Deal will make our country free and prosperous while saving £Thirty nine thousand millions of taxpayers pounds.
100 years ago our grandfathers fought and 79 years ago our Fathers fought again and gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we in 2019 are free to make a democratic decision without fear of retribution from a Communistic Federal Union0 -
They didn't fight for democracy0
