If there is a second referendum ...

The only EU spokesperson I have seen recently couldn't bring herself to accept the extension that a second referendum would require.
Why should the EU wait? They have EU elections in May which could complicate matters.
I wouldn't personally accept any new referendum with vague unachievable options.
Our politicians have embarrassed themselves big time.
Low turnout from the electoral due to apathy. Could spring a nasty surprise. Given the feeling that the EU is heading in the wrong direction. In 2014 only 13% of Slovakians bothered to vote. Overall the turnout was put at 43%. The seventh consecutive decline. Some good campaigning could alter the make up of the EC parliament.0 -
I think the next GE will be fought on a platform of rejoining (or re-negotiating the deal such that we may as well join). I suspect that once reality hits all but the most die-hard brexiteers will want to rejoin.0

If there were to be a second referendum, remain should not be an option. That question has already been asked and answered.
I cant work out why there were two boxes and the voter had one choice.
The voter ticks a box and voter now told you ticked the WRONG box!
Why was there two boxes then?
Reminds me of match fixing or because the WRONG boxer/horse/boat team/football score etc etc result was not the desired outcome there has to be a onesided rematch.0 -
Their vote wasn't wrong; no-one has said that.
That said, the situation has changed; we're not going to get the brexit promised, we know a lot more about it now and public mood seems to have changed. Plus some of the Project Fear claims haven't materialised, so maybe you'll have a stronger leave majority, we just don't know.
When the facts change, you need to see if opinion changes.I seem to remember there was one UK party that specifically (this time at least) wanted to Remain. Didn't seem to bring them much electoral success. General election voting tends to be on a whole range of issues that differ across the country, as well as on party lines, and policy issues seem to come a rather poor third.
That party had become toxic. In the same vein the party who's sole aim was brexit was wiped out, and the Tories who were mostly about brexit lost their majority.0 -
Why does everyone say that the mood seems to have changed.
The more people I speak to the more I find that people are changing their mind, but from Remain to Leave. They are fed up with the way the eu are treating us, whether it is simply perception or truth, the eu are turning into the pariahs. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I'd love to be proven wrong though.
For that to happen, all the things that people were told would happen would need to. if we leave and nothing bad happens that really affects people daily that drastically, the EU could become a non issue for the UK0 -

Yup, it could be a complete anti-climax and people may not care enough to change the status quo again.
But if it does make our lives worse, like even the Brexiteers are predicting, then people will be unhappy and will want to change back.Enterprise_1701C wrote: »Why does everyone say that the mood seems to have changed. The more people I speak to the more I find that people are changing their mind, but from Remain to Leave. I'm not sure how representative you are, since I've seen pretty much the opposite. I guess we tend to live in echo chambers.
HOWEVER, if you are correct and more people are changing their minds to Leave (despite all of the indications), then a 2nd referendum will strengthen the hard Brexit argument - you might find Leave has a larger majority this time and it kills off any notion of Remain or remain-in-name-only.
What do you actually have to lose, unless you fear that the people don't want Brexit anymore?0 -

There is *nothing* on the ground that has changed for those who feel the effects of mass inward migration.
The numbers of new arrivals increase yearly, and the rise in infrastructure spend to meet new demand is just not there.
That's the reality, regardless of mood.0 -

the one thing that bothers me about the 2nd referendum idea is the upheaval it could cause
on the talk radio shows i listen to or political members that are interviewed, when the subject comes up, many commentators say that if we had one, and remain won, then that would be it, we remain even if the vote is 52/48 the other way
If anything, if that happened, it would create hysteria, and multiply the problems this country has
I dont think this country can cope with referendums and another one is a very bad idea. It will just be the same arguements multiplied. James O Brien on LBC would explode (maybe not a bad idea)0 -

If that was geuinely the will of people then that's fine with me.
But last time we didn't know that the offer was
Stay
Leave with terrible deal which some would call staying (rephrase as you wish)
Hard brexit
Now we know what the options are.
BTW - Did anything interesting happen on Question Time last night?0
