The Nvidia Shield K1 is the recommended choice for a mainstream tablet with hdmi output but I don't think they're available new any more.

With a Chromecast then you always have the fallback of being able to screen mirror ... whatever is showing on your tablet screen appears on the TV screen (usually with a slight lag). It generally also casts the audio.

The link says via an HDMI link or Miracast ,(if supported by your TV) or Chromecast. My TV despite being quite new, does not seem to support Miracast

Miracast has been taken on by many manufacturers, and given umpteen daft brand names. Does your TV have 'Screen Sharing' (that's not a daft one) or similar? That's likely Miracast.

What make and model is the TV?

Depending on what you want to put on the TV, a lot of apps you might want to use, will block the video output anyway - SkyGo etc.

Chromecast is excellent with a good WiFi signal, but will cost you money - let's sort out the free option first.

If your streaming is in the browser window it'll be fine, it's only specific apps that block it.

My TV is an LG 43" bought just over a year ago.It does not have the newer smart " zapper" I think for that you need to be model above mine. The functionality of my tablet will depend on which one I buy. I have an android tablet at present.

My weather streaming friends usually stream their weather casts live on dedicated local streaming services. They do not all use the same channel so I log into different ones at different times and for different places. They mostly stream live footage and audio. and sometimes I log onto live weather streams running on local US TV stations.

Which you access via a web browser? If yes then screen mirroring will work fine (whether via Miracast on your TV, or via a Chromecast or similar).

if you post your specific TV model number someone may be able to confirm/discount the Miracast option, and if it has it, where to find it.

The Neocore budget tablet has a micro HDMI port and good reviews on Amazon. However one reviewer says it cannot run Amazon prime video because there is no dedicated App available to do this. I currently run both Netflix and Amazon prime video on my hudl2 with no difficulty. Surely if the Neocore runs standard Android it can run Prime Video and Netflix? (I have posted a question on Amazon but no replies yet. )

I'm using Chromecast. it works very well, to two different TV's in my home (two Chromecast dongles). I can use my Tablet or phone (both Android) to start the Cast. Once it's running you don't use the phone or tablet again (you could even turn them off).

Works with selected applications only - for me that's BBC iplayer, Netflix, Youtube, Spotify, ITV Hub and All4. Can also play your Photo albums. I really only use it for iPlayer. You can also mirror the phone/tablet screen to the Chromecast device.

You obviously need a reasonably good WiFi and Broadband setup.

    To say the least!

I have both the TV and Audio Chromecasts and they are excellent in many ways. However I found the WiFi reception on the TV one terrible, to the point that I ended up buying the optional power supply with wired Ethernet connection in order to use it reliably!

The audio Chromecast manages OK on WiFi from the same position but obviously is less demanding.

My only other gripe has been updates to BBC iPlayer which have killed its Chromecast connectivity for a couple of months on at least two occasions until the BBC and / or Google get their acts together again.
