Can anyone recommend a decent spec tablet with a mini HDMI port, standard android OS and good sound ? Budget up to £200 (corrected from original post to say mini HDMI port)

Is there any tablet with an HDMI port? Some have the power/connector port that doubles as a mini-HDMI port (I believe).

If you explain why you've specified this feature someone may be able to better advise you - you may not actually need an HDMI port.

I meant mini hdmi port ,- to use to stream from tablet onto TV - how do people do this now?
  • There are now no longer any available commonly that meet your spec. See above so!ution.

The link says via an HDMI link or Miracast ,(if supported by your TV) or Chromecast. My TV despite being quite new, does not seem to support Miracast

The remaining option seems to be Chromecast . Does anyone here use Chromecast and can report back if it is any good?

Chromecast works well see multiple Chromecast posts.
  • I tried Chromecast but found it flakey, disconnections, buffering, very short range, I know it may have just been unlucky and have a hardware problem.

But I had a spare cheap chinese 8" tablet (TECLAST P80H) lying around which has a mini HDMI port and its now permanently employed as a media player for the TV. Various apps and using ES File manager it easily streams my movie library held on a NAS on my network.

cost an MSE friendly 2 quid cable.

Several of my older tablets had HDMI ports, the Telcast is still sold for about £40 on Ebay, its no fireball, basic quad core but easily up to the job of media player.
  • I'm using Chromecast. it works very well, to two different TV's in my home (two Chromecast dongles). I can use my Tablet or phone (both Android) to start the Cast. Once it's running you don't use the phone or tablet again (you could even turn them off).

Works with selected applications only - for me that's BBC iplayer, Netflix, Youtube, Spotify, ITV Hub and All4. Can also play your Photo albums. I really only use it for iPlayer. You can also mirror the phone/tablet screen to the Chromecast device.

You obviously need a reasonably good WiFi and Broadband setup.

I need to use the hdmi ports to stream info I may be watching via my tablet onto my tv. This will not necessarily be on mainstream suppliers like Netflix, BBC etc. I have a group of friends in the US who regularly stream weather news via local streaming services and where I pick one up I want to be able to view it on my tv. I have historically used the hdmi ports to use this but my tablet has seen better days and I am looking to replace with something with the same technical spec give or take memory size.
