Working Hard Debt Diary - Here goes

  • Evening all

Good and challeging weekend had and looking forward to payday tomorrow.

Good news on the car front (for the time being anyway). The yellow engine light that came on last week went out on Sat am and has stayed out since. So I phone the garage this am and told them to cancel tomorrows appt and fingers crossed I won't need it for a while...

Did a MS today, two booked for tomorrow and one for next week which is all good. Applied and got accepted for another site so fingers crossed that will generate a little more dosh.

Ebay stuff is doing well with quite a lot of stuff selling (not for much sometimes) which will all help.

The big news was my matched betting foray. I've talked about doing this for a while on this thread and never quite plucked up the courage to take the first step. Sat evening I took the plunge and got myself ready to start. Got the accounts opened, money in the accounts and was ready to go on Sunday with the first (very small :o ) bet. I then made the mistake of sharing my plans/thoughts with my OH who was instantly dismissive. This then gave me a sleepless night on Saturday. I didn't want to do anything behind his back but I wanted to give it a go. Aside from the perceptions of it being (seedy, gambling, doddgy etc) I just wanted to give it a go and see if I can raise a couple of hundred quid from it. I then came the decision to use the £50 of ebay funds as my pot (small I know) and see what I could generate have a go a couple of times pw. Sunday I was ready to press the buttons on the first bet when Betfair decided not to let me log on - maybe I am being told something. Anyway thats the challenge for this week - just thought i would share that:o

All my cc payments are set up except the main target one. That depends on what we get paid tomorrow but I am so looking forward to clearing the RBS card :T .

  • Payday today - always a lovely day:D

Paid £980 off the RBS card today :j with another £305 to pay off it once the money all hits the debt busting account by the end of the week. That leaves me £137 short of clearing it this month...:o . My plans were slightly scuppered by getting my first statement for my 0% card. The min payments are higher than I anticipated which is most of the shortage. No worries I'm still paying the same amount off the debt its just to different cards.

The other shortfall was that my salary was missing my expenses for last month so that will be a bonus towards the next target card next month since I'll have two lots of expenses.

My cards now look like this:

    RBS Card/£535/19.94%
    IF card /£1,999/16.90%
    MBNA/£8,190/2.95%*
    Halifax Visa/£4,605/7.60%
    Barclaycard/£4,262/6.90%
    Tesco CC£/4,077/0%

    * This one's rate jumps up in April hence the reason its number 3 on the hit list. Plus OH has a card for this and has a very annoying tendancy to use it for petrol. Unfortunately for him the new cards arrived the other day and I have appropriated them for filing....no usage now! Fingers crossed OH gets a bonus in March which will go a long way to clearing this one.

The IF card has a huge limit (recently increased :rotfl: ) however they don't do CC anymore so I don't think I'll have any luck with a LOB or O% deal there. RBS are doing some good deals for new customers but a tele conv last week didn't get any offers for existing customers :( . However I'll wait until its clear to see what they send to me.

The long and short of it is that I've still a long long way to go to be DF by the end of the year. We'll do it but its going to be a long hard slog. 1 month down 11 to go. Perhaps I should rename my thread??

I know we do have light at the end of it but sometimes it seems like a long long way off. I'm feeling quite positive and I'm focusing on getting the top two cards cleared with a couple of months. Sometimes if I think about the bigger debts I just feel overwhelmed.

    How's you today?

Well done on the RBS card WH, you must be skipping around! i think i'd be on line checking my balance every 2 minutes with a huge smirk on my face, i'm sure you will find the little tiny bit thats missing somewhere - if not its only 28 days till next payday! Yippee! - sorry thats just me wishing my life away again !

Good news about the car as well things are looking up

I'm feeling great today as OH got paid (Phew!) I get paid on friday but ive had my 1st lot of MS money paid £82 which is coming straight off the MBNA card as the 0% runs out end of Feb!

Its funny reading your list of cards - i have an almost identical list! just swap Halifax for Egg and i'm right with you!

My egg 0% runs out in April and i'm going to try the PO for a BT but I am trying so hard to get my list down to 2 by the year end.

On a happier note we booked our holiday at the weekend! Yay! Couldn't persuade OH to try Turkey so we've gone for an all inclusive in Egypt!!!!! Still in budget (just!) and I should have the money saved by the time we need to pay so I can live with that. Holidays are non negotiable in this house.

I got a terramundy for my birthday and we've been saving our £2coins ever since - its getting very heavy now and OH caught me last night with a knife in it trying to get the money out - I only wanted to count it honest! But the look on his face was priceless! :rotfl: Its going to pay for a London trip later this year so i'm feeling very happy now ive got some nice things to look forward to.

Still need to keep a tight grip on all thing financial but today at least life is good  compingirl x
CC Debt: Jan 10 £21,660 now £8,170 hurrah!
  • Yeap I sure do get a buzz from seeing that card balance down to virtually nothing and it will be a big fat zero at some point next month.

Fantastic about the holiday - Egypt sounds super :D - I'm not green, not at all..... Fair play to you.

List of cards is long but given what it was 18 month ago with a loan, massive OD and all the cards at their limits its great.

I love to feel/see us making progress. You know what its like some months/days it feels a bit of a chore. Then I think needs must, we spent this money (on what goodness knows!) we're lucky we've got good well paid jobs we enjoy (most of the time) and we are in control of our finances for the first time ever and the end is in sight - well with my new specs if I ever get them :D .

    Egypt ....................cool

  • Thankyou,
    i've borrowed
we spent this money (on what goodness knows!)
this quote from you and whenever OH has a strop about not spending/buying anything new i come back with this and it stops him in his tracks!

Egypt All inclusive worked out cheaper than Portugal/Majorca and we should save on the spending money. My DS1 is 14 and eating us out of house and home so at least he can fill his tum whenever he wants without having to ask me all the time. I am excited - just need to drop 2 stone now and i will be exstatic! cg x
CC Debt: Jan 10 £21,660 now £8,170 hurrah!

Sold some bits on ebay tonight - £25 in the debt busting kitty :T

    Take care

  • :j Just paid £258 off the RBS card :D . I've another £100 waiting to go into the debt busting fund from either paypal or MSing payments. So the balance on the RBS card is now £261. Hopefully by the end of next week it will be near £100...
