Its bad its my day off and I'm meant to get a good few hours of study done before the kids need collecting from school but today I've read for about half an hour....

Just phoned Sky and got them to reduce my phone package since now I've got a mobile on contract I'm not using the landline very much. Another £5 extra pm all helps.

Hope all is well with you HTGDF

for what its worth, although I pay for my kids ski trips, etc, I do not pay for their spending money at all - it is up to them to save from birthday money, do odd jobs for grandparents, paper rounds etc to cover that. If they only end up with 10 euros then so be it - but generally they end up taking plenty!

  • Thanks both. We have tried that with DD but tbh she's learning and she has had Xmas in the way.

That said we've had the conversation tonight about savings for her trip in the Autumn and that we're not giving her any spending money and that she has to earn every penny.

She needs to learn these lessons now

  • I've just left DD with that thought - you should have seen the look on her face :D

Well OH has supassed himself. Just when I thought that he was seeing sense he goes and throws a blinder. Just when I believed that the boys toy car was off the agenda he tells me the one he was looking at last night he went to see today (it was just around the corner apparently!!) and not only did he test drive it but he put a deposit on it. How was my response followed by a rapid why. I knew it was coming, he's been car hunting for months. It's his thing and I've learnt to manage the budgets around it. It is at least a half decent car that doesn't need doing up and it certainly won't sit outside the house for months and months as his previous exploits into a second car did. That time he's main car was the boys toy and his other one was the pratical heap of junk. This time he has a very exp gas guzzling car (only pratical in the recent snow) and he's getting a fairly reliable boys toy. Do I sound bitter and twisted :o

Anyway whats done is done. It will be paid for from the joint account and I will transfer the amount the to the RBS card on a 0% to be paid off next month when he gets his bonus. Men, cars, well my man and cars :(

I went with my Mum to choose her some new glasses today and I was suprised at how reasonable they were. Last time I got a quote they were very expensive so I put off getting them alas I was also in denial about needing them :o. However following on from visiting with my Mum then OH's news I think I may just have a look next month :p. I've got a contact lense check anyway (all part of my monthly fee) and I think new spec's may well be in order.

I've not fallen off the DF bandwagon in case anyone is wondering. The car will be paid for next month and the running costs are accounted for in the budget. If I get glasses they will be paid for out of the DF.

The other thing to look forward to is that some friends have asked me to go on a girly weekend to a spa in the Autumn. It will cost of course but I have a good few months to find the money and it will be something to look forward too. That feels quite indulgent though but hey sometimes you've just got to do it. We'll be DF by then too of course :o

Mind you I've managed to get virtually no studying done today which is poor. I think my pressure of last week has told. I must crack to it tomorrow night. I'm going for a run, well jog, well fast walk with a couple of friends tomorrow night so wish me luck.

Another short and sweet post from WHDFW:o
