  • Not much happening on the Debt front. Just waiting for the joint account to lose all its money on Monday as they do. It flies into various pots all over the place but its there to use and not us racking up debts.

I'm very excited about getting DF at the end of the year. It' still touch and go that we'll be DF but definately hoping we will be!

Saying that I've just spent money buying a Wii :o. This is the main Xmas present for the kids, and us, this Xmas. I've done it and opened an Amazon card to get an extra £15 off. Mind you I went through the applicaiton process and got a credit limit of £11.5K. How can they justify that. Clearly I am not going to use the card. However for the sake of £15 its was definately worth doing. The money from the Wii will come from the Xmas fund however that doesn't leave a huge amount in there. I have already bought quite a few bits but theres quite a lot more to do and I am on a mission to get everything sorted in November.

Studies are starting tomorrow  Why the hell have I signed up for this:eek:

MB has grounds to a halt. I've still got £200 in an account which I need to extract.....it may be paying for the recent purchase.

OH has progressed the bathroom decorating  with just a few more bits of dressing to do. It means me spending some money though on a blind, toilet seat, bin. My Mum has offered to buy me some new towels for Xmas but naturally I need to go and choose them. I'm definately not complaining though. After so long not spending money in any way shape or form I still find it very hard to do. I need to fnish off the bathroom and to do that I need to spend a little. I guess that I am trying to put it off until after Xmas for obvious reasons!

I've still got to sort out my car tyres...thats a job for Friday when I am off again.

Nothing has been ebayed for a while, though I've got a pile of stuff in the dining room. £190 tracking for cashback :D.

    Onwards towards being DF

  • Just a quick update however there's nothing much to report really.

My studies have started and I am trying earnestly to keep on top of everything. sucessfully so far but I did have a real panic as I mentioned before! All on track so far including a good couple of hours work today.

On the finance front its all fairly quiet now the bills have all been paid for this month. The accounts are all where they should be. Guiltly I am not ebaying, MB or MS (although I am still looking for these but I am now very choosy about what I pick) so extra money is drying up!

I've booked my car in for 2 new tyres next week (£140!!).

Xmas shopping is in full swing. I'm aiming to get it all done this month which should happen. Since December seems manic and I've got an assignment due mid December as well!

OH is planning to start decorating our bathroom now. More money - but lovely new bathroom!!! I need to find the time to get the extra's for the bathroom. I don't want to leave it unfinished, so I've toilet seat, blind and bath panel to sort out now.....plus the same and a bit more in our bathroom.

Off to do collect the kids, have a meal, have a little chill then maybe do a little ironing :o, a little study (some reading!), the guide run and wine run and maybe a little chill.......

    Happy weekends:D

  • Another update with again nothing much to report on the DF.

My car had its new tyres today £150  however but essential really. Payment will come out of the DF next month and come back out of the car fund in Jan....makes sense to me.

In dispute, probably through the small claims court for £90 which we've currenty lost on a watch my OH bought me for my birthday. Watch didn't work so i sent it back to the company who have since ceased trading and I'm £90 with no watch. I will suceed in getting my money back . The CC company can't help since its outside the relevant dates .

I'm sure not sure if we'll be DF at the end of next month...it will be down to the wire certainly. I've still got money in MB which I need to extract and quite a wad in cashback due. I'm think Jan will be realistic. When I make the CC payments this month the balances will be £3.7k before any overspends or extra come out of the debt payments. Another reduction in Dec will see us going into the new year with £2.3k again assuming no overspends etc which is £1.3k more than our ultra ultra emergency fund against which I was going to ofset. I know that i set the target of being DF before the end of hte year but with my studies now I don't have the time or tbh the motivation to be ebaying etc etc.....lame I know!

So signature update on its way :o

Looking forward as we constantly do I am now focusing on what to use the extra cash for when we are DF in Jan. The mortage overpayment has already been set up for 1/1 which is limited to £500pm for the next year. I am going to reduce the term as well but I'm not going to committ to that until we are definately DF.

Got OH's Toxic asset loan (car!!) statement in to day and a quick phone call to SJ's confirmed that this can be overpaid as well. Given its an expense that already covered by OH's car allowance (emh!!) I'm planning to overpay this on a regular basis as well.

Its lovely but actually scary how quickly this extra money will go, mortgage overpayments, car loan overpayments, savings (I know what a departure that is!!), a few of the budgets upped a bit (to make things a little easier - the clothes fund being a constant challenge to manage with 3 growing kids). Very exciting but quite scary as well......

I did something very indulgent and completely out of habit earlier in the week and ordered some new bits and bobs for our bathroom. £119 !! it soon mounts up. Then I was showing my Mum last night and she offered us £100 for a Xmas pressie to get everything. How lovely and very much appreciated since the £119 was coming from the debt fund :D.

OH now wants to start our bathroom!!! Luckily only a new loo seat, blind and maybe towels wanted in there but a new floor. So far we've spent £260 (how does this add up) but they do need doing. Now I realise why i am being realistic in aiming for the Jan DF celebration!!

  • Oh it sounds great, you are so close to actually achieving DF status its amazing! Just look how you've turned yourselves around -:j fantastic!

The house stuff soon mounts up! When you've finished your bathroom would you like to start mine lol! We are working from the bottom up - hall stairs and landing are next on our list - we've bought the lights so thats good but need a decorator we were quoted £500 so thats going to wait till next spring! I won't let OH do DIY - it always costs up twice as much in the end :D

Ive been feeling better about our cash situation, I know we still have a way to go but for the sake of our marriage! we are going the scenic route to DF day. ive been studying our spreadsheets and it seems on paper we have 20k disposable income per year :D this year we have spent it on holidays, new funiture, decorating, fines, beds washing machine etc etc! and only £6k has gone on debt repayment! Next year I want to address the balance of things and pay more on the debt than on the good life! Apart from a holiday and some decorating the only thing we really need is a new bed for us! so i'm going to get one in the sales and hopefully its onwards and upwards for us next year and bring our total debt down to under £20k.

Anyway, huge post over lol! Here's to 2010 & DF Status! cgx

  • You're like me I don't post short messages!

Sounds like you've got a balance that works which is the most important since if you can't live with it then it won't work. We gone in the route of spend nothing for such a while that we can now afford to spend a little bit.

My OH does a good job of the decorating but his cost management of it leave a lot to be desired. I'm not complaining though.
