  • I'm sorry to hear that. 62 is no age really. Its must have been very hard on you all coming so close on the heels of the wedding. My thoughts are with you. It does give you such a change of perspective though doesn't it. Life is short.

  • I had a lovely day today confined to barracks with the kids. I spent a good part of the morning filing () and clearing out our office. Wow do I feel clensed now that its all done. Mind you I have 2 feet of shredding to get through tomorrow. My DS's and I did some baking and painting which was fun. More baking planned for tomorrow after DD and friend nipped out to the shops to get some baking powder. I also got some cleaning done including a couple of light shades - I know how low down on the list are they. I felt totally relaxed and domestic goddess stylie - very not me but good fun.

Another domestic day planned tomorrow since conservatory roof is into day 2 of its replacement. I'm planning more baking with boys, wardrobe sort out for both boys, swimming with the boys later on when freedom is restored and definately some more cleaning although I'm not sure the oven will be tackled!!

We've still not got the heating on....are we daft??

  • Productive am so far. Baking done, ironing done and put away, sewing pile attacked and sorted, couple of ebay parcels wrapped and ready to go and boys acutally playing nicely with toys (as opposed to being plugged into DS, PS or TV!). Fantastic mind you DD is still in bed and given the amount of noise the guys are making on the conservatory under her window sleeping must be impossible!

  • Interestingly as I worked my way through the shredding of years of old bank statements I was eyeballing the statements for interest as you do. I noticed that the food payment to our Clubcard account was £320 in 1999. This is clearly 10 years ago and was when we had only DD. Either we were living like Kings (and if we were I certainly don't remember it) and or spending way too much on food shopping. Given that our budget is now £400pm with 2 adutls and 3 growing kids something is wrong somewhere.

The food and petrol budgets are one's that are without fail challenged each month. When I think I've got it sorted it appears I don't. So far this month we've spent virtually all of the food budget and with over a week to go until the 1st I definately need to shop before then. Now in most months previous I've borrowed from various pots to pay it back again on the 1st. Clearly therefore reducing that months budget. Over the year our food budget stays just about on the £400 pm but its cashflow that is the problem at times.

As an experiment I'm going to do a small online shop today/tonight using funds from the debt pot. This then should leave the full £400 for next month however a quick check of the calender shows next month is 'shorter' month than October has been/felt.

I'm not sure if I am making sense......I need to rumicate. Lunch for the kids beckons now DD has emerged from her stupor oh to be a nearly teenage!

  • Gosh you have been busy! There must be something in the air (or is it being locked in the house with kids?) for all the cleaning and domesticated bliss type activities that are taking place at the moment! I seem to have caught it too! Whilst looking after DS2 yesterday I managed a trip in the loft, sorted thru all the summer clothes and got all DS2 shorts shirts etc on ebay (24 items listed only 1 sold so far :) then sorted all the ski stuff out and got DS1 to try on - yes we need new so something to kep my eyes pealed for and did a truck load of washing and ironing!
I bet a toddler in pot kept you on your toes! what a nightmare! i'm imagining him like a little dog in your shopping basket or tucked under your arm like a dolly! My DS2 has had me run off my feet, but hes going to school tomorrow so I will see how he gets on - its our half term next week. Ive got an 18month old great nephew (aren't I old) and they are so much hard work at that age!!!

I spoke to the consultant on Monday DS1 has had a swanky black pot on - looks great! and its a very nasty break so we've to keep going back for xrays whilst its healing to ensure the bone doesn't move (or drop off - consultants words not mine!) and it might attatch to his growth plate and cause further problems later on but we will cross that bridge if we come to it.

this is such a long month! I had to do a shop on Sunday cos' nowt in so I checked the freezer and made a 10 teas list and only bought the extra stuff needed to make those 10 teas & nothing else! £52 later - I needed all washing stuff too - I now realise we need toilet rolls so will have to go tomorrow, can't do without them!

  • There must be something in the air you are right CG. Mind you the cons is finished now so freedom beckons. DD has gone for a sleepover at a friends tonight, and DS's are in bed worn out from the swim this evening. I did the the baking with the boys, and even had ironing done this am before 9am. I do need to remind myself that this is my holiday!!

When DS2 broke his leg it was horrid. He was encased, literally, in plaster and therefore wasn't able to move, fit into high chairs, prams, cots anything. Thankfully it wasn't too long. He had to go back to ensure there was no lasting limp which thankfully there wasn't.

What am I doing with my first day of holiday freedom tomorrow - taking my car for its service. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. They've quoted me £160 which is more of less whats left in the car fund account.

I've not faced the shopping yet. I made a chilli tonight for tea which I put on timer in the oven. I had run out of chilli powder so I bought some in the local 'corner' shop on the way back from dropping DD off. Unfortuntely I didn't realise how hot it was and I was freely adding it. The end result was an ultra ultra hot chilli which the kids weren't able to eat. Terrific therefore I've put off the extra shop until tomorrow at some point...

    Fun, fun, fun....

  • Oh i hate it when that happens, we've had fish pie :) with 2 lots in the freezer for a hotch potch tea when i'm desperate.

Mine are both bathed and in bed, sending DS2 tomorrow, he wants to go but I am nervous incase he struggles. At least his school trousers fit over the pot!

Im going swimming then a MS in town to take my mind of it. i can always get him at dinnertime if he's struggling.
I'm glad your little one was OK in the end, it is a worry and I can tell you its never ending!
Oh I wish I was thin and debt free and didn't have to work! cgx
