Anita - hubby gets more like his Dad every day which is actually quite scary.
He also argues with the TV and has had plenty of opportunity to do this with the on-going Brexit saga. Trouble is I can't hear what the 'experts' are saying because he's too busy talking over them. Drives me mad. At least he's not a massive football fan so I don't have to suffer that. :rotfl:
Susie - I've been sat here thinking that £120 will go nowhere with 3 girls. DD spends ages in the shower and leaves every light on in the house so if the other 2 are the same they'll definitely be putting money towards the bills. We've noticed a big change in our monthly readings since she left in September. I see it as another learning curve for her. Obviously everything is covered in halls so next year she'll have to keep an eye on a few bills which won't do her any harm.
WB - well, what a day you've had my lovely. So pleased for you. :T To be honest I don't know anything about what happens with checks but it's handy to know a guarantor check is different to a credit check. Thanks for the recipe, I'll give it a go next time. My bananas were black but I didn't melt the ingredients or put any milk in, so yours is definitely different. xx0 -
The bills thing is different from what DS1 has - I think he's paying over the odds for where he is, but we do at least have the reassurance that it's covered within his one payment. Presumably landlord/agent has been doing this a while, so it's absolutely reasonable that they can tell you what the average bills are per month, and whether or not it's allocated across the board or specifically. The more information you have, the less surprises there are.
And that's great about the deposit - DS1 had a month plus a fee - all refundable. He told me tonight that last semester's bill had a refund of 25% due to him because of the problems with his shower - scalding- and toilet - only able to be used once a day. OH fixed the toilet at Christmas and the agents hopefully fixed the shower yesterday, but DS1 is pushing to get a refund on this semester too - especially as they didn't try to fix the toilet and I'm guessing they still don't know it is fixed. Fortunately he is a. a boy, and b. does lots of sport and so has showers at the gym and various sports facilities most days.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

That's interesting/worrying about the liability MatyMoo. I haven't seen anything that relates to that but one of the girls has been a bit lax at getting deposits, paperwork back on time so if that were the case it would definitely set alarm bells ringing in my head.
Actually, there's absolutely no way I'd sign on something like that and I wonder why somebody would. Did you find a way around that? She would end up back in halls. Luckily there is the option for her to do that.
Thanks for dropping by and mentioning that, much appreciated. xx
There was no way around it
Luckily I knew that her parents would pay if there were any problems, they were not acceptable as a guarantor as they were living abroad at the time........earning a small fortune to get the girls through Uni :rotfl::rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Morning All
JJ - DS is going on his residential end of March. He went on one at primary in December and it was freezing, so I'm not too worried about him surviving, even though he's not really the outdoors type
Showers must be a common problem. DD's wouldn't drain away so she had to get maintenance up. I don't blame DS for trying to get a refund. They'd be quick enough to take some of his deposit if there was a problem.
MatyMoo - I'd have been down there every week checking their place out making sure my money was safe :rotfl: At least you had the peace of mind that it wouldn't actually be you paying if anything went wrong. I'm really glad you mentioned it even though I don't think it's the case with us, it's good for us novices to have stuff pointed out.
Right it's the last day of my spends week so I'm off to have a count up and a think about allocating some money to my pots. Back later with some figures.
Have a good day everybody.0 -
Kids at uni is a whole new stress isn't it. My eldest has 4 and a bit years if she goes, but no doubt it'll be here before we know it. My worry is my kids are in consecutive school years so there's a huge potential overlap of having to try and support them both if that's what they both decide to do. It's another kick up the rear to get rid of our debt and start saving.
I managed to bag a whopping £3 PA survey yesterday, after days of nothing. Finally Debt Free 24/4/20230 -
You know their time at uni does fly in so quick.
After all the up & downs I can now look back & say how quickly it went.
A degree & a Masters ~~ those 5 years went so quickly.
My DS is a lovely young man & i am so proud of what he has achieved despite all the obstacles :T :TI am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. CG - I can imagine having 2 children at uni together could be quite a drain - financially and emotionally. There's nearly 6 years between mine, took me that long to get over the shock of DD :rotfl: There are times I wish they were closer together, for my sake not theirs, they get on like a house on fire, but then when it comes to things like this I'm glad there's a big gap so we can get ourselves sorted out. Well done on the PA, mine was worth 85p but they are soooo slow at the moment.
Beanie - good morninghope you're not aching too much today. Wow a degree and a Masters, no wonder you're so proud of him. Did he go into a job that reflected the degree he took. I know quite a few people where that didn't actually happen so it'll be interesting to see what DD does although hers is a general all round one. It does go quickly, I can't believe they're having to sort houses out already, she only started 3 months ago. I'm sure they could have these degrees done and dusted in 2 years. It's not as though they don't have everything at their fingertips these days with google at their beck and call. And don't even get me started on the holidays.

Day 7/28, 5/15 NSD's, Prolific £6.41 cleared, £1.52p pending, Cash £17.75 for 1st-7th Feb
It's the end of February Week 1 for me. Prolific must have heard me moaning because I got a survey through this morning and some money has also cleared - at last :T
At the end of today, I'll have had 6 NSD's this week. I don't know what's going on with the spending or lack of it tbh. The DC's aren't asking for/needing anything and although my habits have changed regarding the joint account, there's not much extra coming out of there apart from the usual bills. We must just be at a point where we don't need anything. It all feels rather odd.
So I have £17.75 left over which means I've spent £6 this week. I definitely need to boost the theatre pot so that's having £5 added to it and I'll put £5 into the caravan pot. That leaves £7.75. Looking at this weeks lack of spends I'm wondering if I really need to carry it over or if I should just divide it between some of the other pots. I'll have a think.
It's cold, wet and windy here. Glad to be indoors where it's warm - sort of  x0 -
DS has not got a job in his 'field' yet & doubt he will.
Still working part time where he has been since finishing his undergrad.

Great to see an underspend this week! In terms of the unspent £7.75 - how about putting it in a 'holding pot' in case something comes up this week? If it doesn't, you can add it straight to your pots. Means you can access it easily if you have a more expensive week.
I often find an expensive week follows a non-expensive week by nature, because you've gone two weeks without replacing things etc. But it depends how your funds are allocated I suppose.
Something to think about!
Damn, i haven't been on PA yet today as I've been snowed with work. Maybe I'll be lucky? Off to check now...Sealed Pot Challenge 075
