  • Just caught up, glad to see you did the chart! It does help, mine I just took total and worked out 1% although interest is added to my balance I just take my balance from last month and minus what they are now to work out what I've paid of so kinda takes the interest into consideration :)

Can't believe it's six of Jan already! Hope you have a fab Sunday x

Hi MWM - I've joined the NSD challenge and reading through it a lot of people exclude certain things from what they count as a NSD. Shopping, fuel and bills are the main ones. I've excluded shopping day for myself. It might be a different way of looking at it just to give you a boost. Choccygirl is very strict with herself though, so not sure she will approve of my advice :rotfl: Different meals area a nightmare aren't they. Good that you're laying some rules down. Even if you can get a few days where you eat the same it will help.

Hi Wannabe. Hope you and the smalls have had a lovely weekend. From what you've said about DD I really think you should consider HE especially if she's not happy there. I'm sure you're up to the job and it would ease a lot of stress for you - the school doesn't exactly sound helpful about certain situations :(

Choccygirl - funny the outlook men have on certain money isn't it. I would definitely put him on a takeaway ban for a few weeks ;) You never know though, he might go away and think about it and order one.

DFW - Yes, I did my chart, thank you for the idea. Seeing those little smiling faces looking at me makes me feel good. :) I know, one week of Jan gone already. I like this month because it seems to last forever but it's going a bit too quick at the moment.

Hope everybody is having a lovey Sunday. I'm off to update my money now. Back soon. x

    Day 6/31, 5 NSD, Prolific £13.31 cleared, £4.30 pending, £27.50 cash for 1-7th Jan.

This week has gone really quickly. I can't believe I've only spent £2.50 in total and tomorrow I'll be paying myself another £30 spends. Apart from it being my turn for coffees and any bits I might pick up when I'm out, I can't see this coming week being overly spendy either.

Because it's quite a chunk of money I'm carrying over I've decided to put £2.50 each into savings, Christmas and caravan. Then I'll add the £20 to my spends, so tomorrow I'll be starting with £50. IF there's anything left over next week a portion of it will go to the CC.

I still have £12.50 Christmas money as well. I could do with a couple of tops to lounge around in so will have a look this week. The biggest surprise is I've still got this money 2 weeks after Christmas. Normally it would have been swallowed up into something household, the DC or worse still I wouldn't have a clue where it had gone.

Today has also been another NSD so all in all it's been a cracking start to the NY even if I do say so myself. :rotfl: It's surprising how accountable keeping a public diary makes you. I definitely recommend it.

Enjoy the rest of the day. x

You've done amazing with keeping all the cash and accounting for it separately. I think your right on the takeaway ban too, the issue is he's on a healthy eating mission. I have come up with a sneaky plan though and I'll have a curry when my friend pops at end of month. X

    Day 7/31, 5 NSD, Prolific £13.31 cleared, £4.30 pending, £50 cash for 7th-13th Jan.

Morning Everybody :) DS back to school today so a little bit of normality is returning. DD not heading back to Uni until next week though, so not quite there just yet.

Have a few things to do today - some house stuff and some things to sort out which means going out. The only spend I can see from my money will be on a pair of tweezers. They've gone missing from the bathroom cabinet. DD swears blind she's not had them but it's odd how they've gone AWOL while she's home. I'm beginning to look like Nanny McPhee around the chin so it's a much needed spend.

We have a funeral this week. My lovely M-I-L passed away over Christmas. She'd been ill for a long time so it wasn't really unexpected. We've done the official stuff of registering her death etc. But today we need to do things like order food. There won't be many people at the funeral - maybe 15 at the most and apart from us and the grandchildren, nobody is under 80 so we're just going to come back to our house afterwards for a sandwich and cup of tea.

The whole affair is going to be simple, she was a quiet lady and would have hated anything OTT. I've been looking at flowers and the ones we'd have chosen are literally a bouquet style of half a dozen roses and lilies at cost of £60 + From the grandchildren we were doing a red rose each which with a bit of greenery were £10 each. We can afford this but both of us hate being blatantly ripped off which seems to happen when you mention funeral/wedding. So, I've decided to do them myself. I understand part of the cost is for the time they spend making up the bouquet but I do have a bit of a flair for things like this so I'm not worried about how they'll turn out. Other relatives have asked me to organise flowers for them as well and handed over £10's and £20's. I haven't the heart to tell them even something simple that I know they wouldn't be happy with, would cost twice as much as that, so I'll be doing something for them as well. They'll definitely get more for their money with me on the job ;)

Hope everybody has a good day :)

Sorry to hear about MIL :( It's awful the cost that they seem to add on when you mention it's for a funeral or wedding. When it was my Dad's funeral we didn't tell them :o We ordered a bouquet to a set amount and then X amount of single flowers for us to lay on the coffin. It worked out far cheaper. I'm sure you'll do a lovely job

    Have a good day

Morning Wannabe. Sorry to read your Dad is no longer with you. Yes, not mentioning what function they're for is a good tip. I love single flowers from children/grandchildren at funerals. There's something so touching about their simplicity.

I'm quietly confident the flowers will be fine. BUT I wouldn't do anything wedding orientated. Maybe table flowers but definitely not something that needs to be held or last for a full day :rotfl: Funeral flowers are different. They get made up, put on the coffin and then an hour later laid somewhere and left so think I'll be able to pull that remit off.

Glad to read all DC are in school. Hope they enjoy their first day back. Have a lovely day. x

I decided to have a look in DD's bedroom for my tweezers just in case I could find them and lo and behold there they were on her shelf, so didn't need to buy any.

We did everything we needed to do this morning which involved spending money but none of it was mine. Can't claim another NSD day though. I knew DS wouldn't eat what Mum was making so picked him a McD's up on the way for his tea. He was in 7th heaven :rotfl: We hardly eat any fast food and if he has 6 McD's a year it's as much, so he's always thrilled when he does get one.

Apart from that I've not spent anything now since last Tuesday! I know I'm a creature of simple habits and needs but I'm surprised at how much I don't buy. Before I embarked on this venture I never had any money so I dread to think how much I've let slip through my fingers buying things that haven't actually been for me. I wonder if the family will notice a difference with their money because of this.

Had to give husband an MSE talking to today. He opened a new block of cheese because apparently the block already opened wouldn't give him big enough slices for cheese on toast. I told him he'd be hung, drawn and quartered on here for pulling such stunts.

Back home from Mums now, PJs on and settled down for the night. Hope you've all had a good day. x

Ooh, after hardly anything from Prolific recently I got a £2.50 and £1 survey today. Both only took 30 mins tops so that was a nice little bonus.

Hope you had a lovely dinner :)

I grate all our cheese :p and use it straight from the freezer. It seems to go so much further if it's grated

Funny you should say about grating cheese Wannabe. Buying a couple of blocks and grating them for the freezer is part of my Brexit stock plan. Hubby gets through loads and I want to make sure I've got some in just in case. :)
