Slipping Through My Fingers

Morning
My smalls are driving me crazy with the countdown. It's caused arguments as there are 4 days left on their advent calendar but obviously its 5 days until Xmas morning  Youngest can't get her head round the Advent stopping Xmas Eve, I need to add a number 25 for next year :rotfl:
Hope you have a lovely day

Wannabe I'm sat here laughing at the advent calendar because DS said exactly the same thing to me last night. He wanted to know where the 25th chocolate was - he's 13!!! I thought calendars used to do an extra big chocolate for Christmas Day but I've either got that wrong or that's something else that's changed over the years.
Hope the 2 eldest enjoy their parties. Has the littlest one had to miss out on hers? Have a lovely day. x1 -
Day 20/31, **£35.93**, 11 x NSD's, Prolific £8.94 cleared and £3.20 pending
Well, as expected nothing was spent today and nothing much was done apart from the usual jobs in the house. I had a veggie burger last night which was a bit heavy on the garlic and I've spent all day trying not to open my mouth :rotfl: I'm knocking myself out with the smell
Out of the £45 I'd allocated for my hair and meal I spent £42, so I was within budget :T I would have gone over but there was an unexpected offer on the wine which meant that instead of paying £32 for 2 bottles we only paid £19. I've added the £3 to my cash which takes me up to £35.93. Need to have a count up tomorrow to make sure I've actually got that much and none of it has slipped through my fingers
Also need to have a quick look at the joint account to make sure we're on top of things. It's like the Bank of England at the moment with money coming in and going out for Christmas gifts/shopping etc.1 -

Ain't that the truth :rotfl::rotfl:. Just paid off my credit card which had the Christmas presents bought on it. Christmas money sent to DDs and online food delivery coming tonight. Really hoping the outs are slowing down now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. ES - the joint account is on fire at the moment :rotfl: and all hopes of it balancing on 31st have been abandoned
Day 21/31, **£35.93**, 12 x NSD's, Prolific £8.94 cleared and £4.95 pending
Need to pop out today to do a couple of jobs. I could do with finding a hobby magazine as a gift but it's proving hard to come by so unless I stumble across one I don't think any spending is on the agenda either from mine or the joint account.
It's Half day for DS at school today so he'll be home at lunchtime. Shopping is being delivered this afternoon. Apart from that I don't think there's much else planned.
Hope you all have a lovely day.1 -

I didn't have to spend any money today but I did do. Hubby has mentioned a DVD over the past few weeks - just in passing, he wasn't dropping any hints, so I made a note of it and decided if he'd not bought it for himself a few days before Christmas I'd treat him. I gave it to him tonight and he was really pleased. I love it when gifts really are gifts rather than just swapping things for the sake of it.
So my £35.93 is now £25.93. I doubt at this rate there'll be anything more than pennies left over this month, but nothing has gone on to the CC so I'm happy with that.1 -
Day 22/31, £25.93, 12 x NSD's, Prolific £8.94 cleared and £5.15 pending
Enjoyed a late night watching TV followed by a lovely lie-in this morning. Can't believe we're only 3 days away from the big day now. Shopping came yesterday and everything was there so no need to go out and top anything up. I ordered 2 bags of potatoes and 2 cauliflowers for 29p each. Wasn't expecting them to be great but the potatoes are huge, better than I've had over the past few weeks and the cauliflowers are as big as hubby's head, which is BIG :rotfl:
I might suggest a take-away this evening. We've not had one for months and with DD being home think it would be a nice Saturday evening treat. Other than that, it's going to be a normal Saturday for us.
Have a lovely day and hope those of you doing something special enjoy yourselves. :xmassmile1 -
Something that might work well for you.. I’ve opened a Christmas saver account with my local credit union. The idea is you Pay into it all year and can cash out in November (bear in mind there is no access to it all year until November)
Working well for me as I have a standing order for it @ 20£ a month and know that I will have at least 240£ by the time November comes for Christmas 2019.
Best of luck with your budgeting goals. 😊Goals:
Debt Free on 1st February 2019 - goal reached
Emergency fund £1000/ £1000 - goal reached January 2020
3-6 month emergency fund challenge - £4100/£5000 - target date August 20201 -
Hi Flutterby and welcome. I'll have a look at a credit union, don't know the first thing about them tbh. Must admit I'm a bit iffy about other people holding my money although not just being able to dip into savings is what I need really.
I have an Iceland card which I make up to the nearest £1 when I go shopping but never let it go much over £10. The way stores are going under these days I don't trust them with much more
Definitely hoping to hold on to more of my money in the NY!1 -
Day 23/31, £25.93, 13 x NSD's, Prolific £9.14 cleared and £5.45 pending
We had a Chinese last night and spent a really nice couple of hours sat at the table just chatting. Love those sort of moments so much, I really do treasure them.
No spending on the horizon for a few days now, which is just as well, funds are lowI've been to church, cooked a ham and made a mincemeat filo tart which according to the recipe will keep for a few days in a tin so that's a couple of things ticked off my list.
Looking forward to properly starting managing my money in the NY but for now I'm putting it to the back of my mind until after Christmas.1
