I have no idea, but for some reason that's reminded me of an upper-class acquaintance of mine who had very definite ideas about the cooking of fish.  He always reckoned that the best way to eat any freshwater fish was to wrap it carefully in newspaper, wet the parcel thoroughly and pop it in the oven at gas mark 2 for ten minutes.  Then take it out, unwrap the parcel, throw away the fish and eat the newspaper.

Basketcase I like your thinking. Entic - erm I mean accidentally coming across pre fattened dinner is very sensible prepping. Sort of corn-fed chicken version. But Scotland seems to be sadly short of dormice these days

Remember you can cook pasta perfectly by boiling it for a couple of mins then turn the gas off and leave it with the lid on the pot, for 10/20 mins. It will cook itself.

I always forget to do that.  And I always mean to take frozen veg out of the freezer first thing, but it takes me a couple of hours before I remember.  Better late than never, but still ...

Thankully her plan to bake Gingerbread and disguise the house up the Hill to tempt small children indoors seemed to have failed.

I tried to be a concientious objector when it came to  dissecting anything but failed.

I never understood the point. There were pictures and explainations in text books, I once had  a miserable looking  frog deceased of course but he must have seen what was coming.

@pollyanna_26   I've heard about the Poison Gardens of Alnick, but otherwise know nothing at all about them.  Thanks for the heads up, I'll proceed with caution but was quite looking forward to an exchange of ideas...

Speaking of which, @MingVase I'm not surprised your efforts with the gingerbread house failed in these more cynical times.  Did you consider a double-arched, bright yellow garden gate, with the smell of fries wafting out (like bread in a supermarket)?  That would have the added advantage of attracting the pre-fattened ones - not a small point as food and fuel prices rocket...

Sadly DPs Dad passed away over the weekend and we've been sorting out the house. Being mindful of creeping food costs I decided that it would make sense to bring home food that we would eat so our cupboards are a little fuller now (and I'm sure FIL would have approved). We'll be spending the next couple of months sorting out the house and then getting it ready for sale. 

In happier news I had a string of good surveys paying out in Amzon vouchers and then also managed to win a voucher! I decided a good investment would be an air fryer so we needed turn the oven on as much. We've got one a ninja one which dehydrates/bakes/grills. I only had to pay £10 of actual money which was good and hopefully it'll will pay for itself soon enough. Since we got it a week ago I've only had the oven on once and that was for a full oven of baked goods.
