Sorry for your DP's loss, @Toonie
When my mam died I found a little notebook useful to write down things to do when I thought of them. That way I hopefully didn't forget anything.2025 Fashion on the ration

Si_Clist, she pricks the potatoes with a fork, rubs a bit of oil on them and puts the slow cooker on high for a few hours, not sure but I think it's about 4, will check with her later. She turns them over about halfway through. I haven't done it myself but she's done it several times and is happy with the results.12

I’ve tried to order some from the nhs site twice now and both times they’ve said none available.
I’m on day 9 and still positive but luckily I still have a box left. It’s really confusing at the moment of what to do. Apparently I can still work now even if positive but I refuse to because I work in a shop so basically could give loads of people it without them knowing. I’m lucky because OH works as well and we can manage for a couple of weeks without my wage.

I've only just come online Toonie so don't know if anyone has mentioned the " Tell is Once" service which is for informing Central and local Govt of a death. It covers pensions and any other benefits and locally Council Tax etc.It only has to be done once and saves contacting each dept seperatly. Some banks are very good when it comes to current and savings accounts, direct debits.etc and a visit to the branch can be helpful.Someone suggested a small notebook. I found keeping a notebook for what needed doing and what had been done really useful. No tell us once back whenmy 1st husband died but shocked and grieving there are things that need to be done.Soemone mentioned a small notebook when my 1st husband died quite young after a traumatic event a notebook tracked all needing to be done and the things that had been. There were a few years knowing he wouldn't recover as he moved from intensive care to brain injury unit and finally a hospice.I had children to care for was trying to cope with what had happened and as someone who'd never hated anyone wait for the courts do deal with those who'd attacked him.I decided "One day at a time" and have done that ever since whether dds health and other events it has helped.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.17 -
elaine241 said:I have started putting the cooker on to cook several things rather than just the evening meal. My sister has batch cooked and put meals in the freezer so she can just defrost whilst at work and heat in the microwave. I think a freezer would pay for itself as you can take advantage of bargains, any home grown/foraged produce and freeze individual meals. Unless like me have the power flex chewed by mice and loose everything!
I am looking at storing stuff at room temperature through canning , bottling and preserving different ways. I opened a jar of bottled tomatoes from 2 years ago and they were perfectly fine. I made pasta sauce from all home grown ingredients but used all of that up very quickly. I will be making a lot more this year!
My mothers day present is to get the big veg plot set up with paths and raised beds so I can keep on top of it. The one in the garden is set up like this and it is so much easier. I will have my bargain little plastic greenhouse in the garden and if £ allows invest in a bigger one in the garden on the farm yard. Then if the situation continues I will have the chance to keep growing food.
I will have to do a inventory of my pasta, flour etc. I have just added packets when I go shopping. There were bottles of sunflower and veg oil, flours, pasta in Lidl only thing missing was the cheap spaghetti which I have stocked up on. Off to B*okers today to set up my account for wholesale groceries. The offer is there for local prepping thread members to come with me or borrow my card.10 -

Absolutely. Amongst all the things that are hard to do, the Tell Us Once is almost shockingly straightforward & helpful.11 -
I see BBC News is reporting that we should expect a food crisis in the next 12-18 months.
This should be fun... no only does no-one have any money, prices across the board are going up but they are trying to send the idiots into panic buying mode again.
Personally i always have a good stock, i'll maintain my stock incase there are problems but panic buying causes more problems than it solves.- May 2021 Grocery Challenge : £198.72 spent / £300 Budget
