Goodness pollyanna_26 when you said he had suffered an attack I assumed you meant a heart attack or brain haemorrhage (sp?) not that he was actually attacked. How awful for both of you.

Dear Polly, the brain still keeps its mysteries. How wonderful that your husband could still bring back every detail of his beloved steam engines just from hearing their number.
He was obviously a born gentleman and that stayed with him.
I'm so glad that you have such happy memories. The terrible ones will never eclipse them. Bless you.I believe that friends are quiet angels

It sounds as if he was a wonderful man who deserved to be spared the memories of the attack, what a lovely way to be able to recall himIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!19

Delurking briefly (gosh twice in one month?) to thank Pollyanna for sharing that very poignant memory. It sounds like he was a natural gentleman.

We can't wind back the clock to prevent bad things happening so remembering the many good times is the way to deal with any anger etc. It's damaging to do otherwise and it's better to remember the man himself as he deserved.Twice in one month Wolfie. I am honoured. I hope all is well with you both. I understand your time is limited and the spoons often run out. However if at times the pm issue is limiting your posting. Remember there is an army behind you who will defend you. TBH I have no idea whether there is now an option to turn off pms. A number of us raised the subject when we changed to the new site but when I last checked there didn't seem to be one. I do understand however that previous experiences can live on long after.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.19 -
I am sitting thankfully in my living room rather than upstairs due to flooding. We are so lucky that our house has not flooded even though on Thursday night it was very close - we were surrounded by water on two sides and it was coming up through the concrete outside 1 inch more and we were flooded. The flooding started on Wednesday after two days of water coming from a house near us. It became a flood that afternoon - the agencies here were not prepared for it even though us residents said that it was getting bad. 10 pm we were getting sandbags by 10.30 pm we could not cross the dry bit we did to get the sandbags. We were putting everything in our workshop which is where we store everything(we have no room in our kitchen for a fridge or food only a cooker and washing machine) . I have the greatest respect for the fire brigade as they took over and prevented everyone flooding. They are still here making sure that it does not get to the point it did.
Our wellies are upstairs to put on as we do not know if in the morning if we are wading as it is groundwater not river water. The water is still a river from the house across the road and our concrete in the garden has lifted up due to the water underneath it.
The community spirit here has grown so much - we had a good spirit before but now I cant explain
how it has changed.
We are still at risk and there are 7 pumps just keeping the water at bay. The sound of the water feature across the road is really rather relaxing.“HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. Ohmigosh, machasraven, stay safe! Here's hoping the water level falls right back over the next few days; the forecast down here is dry until Wednesday, which is a relief as "our" river's gone over too & reached the ditch at the edge of our allotment. Which is as nothing compared to how close it is to your home, so I hope it stays dry where you are too.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)20

Stay safe, machasraven. It must be terrifying to be flooded. I moan about our hill when I walk up it with two shopping bags but at least we aren't flooded when the river at the bottom overflows.16

Polly - just popping in to say 'bless you' for sharing that with us. Hold on to the happy memories xEverything will be alright in the end - and if it's not alright, it's not the end ........19
