it's all about being visible and reminding people that you're part of the community now. You're not an incomer (more a downcomer, from your mountain
) but it never hurts

His memory was shot but I noticed he was struggling to walk uo the sandhills. I asked him to take my arm pretending I was struggling. I just had a cardie on and had left my jacket in the car. He took his coat off and put it round my shoulders. It took me back to our honeymoon in the IOM in 1969. No short term memory left but he automatically put the coat on me and took my arm.DD was chatting to the guy who has all the arrows info. When they landed they spent a long time talking to my husband and gave him a big picture of them and the planes each one signed. We didn't know it then but it was the very last good day and he was happy taking his precious gift back to the hospice.Probably the best good day for him.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

How lovely Polly, and how sweet that he was able to make the gentlemanly gestures to his good lady xx2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Lovely story polly - if somewhat sad and poignant for you.
Snowing on and off here today - we don't have to go anywhere fortunately but may try for a walk if it stops long enough. Having a risotto for tea, made of bits and bobs from the fridge and freezer - peppers, onions, a bit of butternut, some peas. The dregs of a bottle of white that we went off (i know you are not supposed to cook with a wine you won't drink but it'll be fine).I wanna be in the room where it happens13 -
I've just harvested my first container of pea shoots grown in the plastic packs that fresh veg come in on the windowsill in the garden room and they taste really fresh and lovely. I let them grow just above 3" high and they'd put out embryonic 'proper leaves' on three nodes up the stems and I cut them 1/2" above the compost. There was a suggestion that if you leave the cut stems growing on they may give a second crop so I'm going to let these go another few days and see what happens but I have another new tray sown a few days ago and already sprouted to grow on for next weekend or the week after. It's really as simple as soaking the peas for 24 hours in water and then planting them thickly and covering lightly with compost. Keep them moist but not wet and bingo pea shoots. Easy, cheap and full of fresh flavour at this 'dead' time of year, well worth having a go!9

We often had the Battle of Britain memorial flight fly over the show. He said I can hear the Lancaster before we heard them approach. He struggled at times due to the cancer but was blessed with only good memories. His working life with his beloved steam engines and places he'd been to and loved.Brain injuries can cause dreadful feelings of loss and fear in some. It was as though his memory retained the good times. He remembered leaving work that night but not the attack. We told him when the two wasters were sent to prison but he didn't understand what we were talikg about. So we talked of the past and the good times. I would reel off the numbers of his steam engines. He'd come straight back with the name if any. Class ,where built, home depot and whether he'd worked on it. He was a truly good man and I think he'd earned only good memories.pollyx

I suppose it was good in a way, Pollyanna, that he had no memory of the actual incident, otherwise his life would have been full of nightmares and flashbacks. Maybe that was Nature's way of protecting him?
On a Prepping theme, we can all prepare for most situations, especially situations related to our health and safety, but some things just cannot be foreseen. We have to focus on developing our resilience. Resilience to illness, to financial crises, to any possible untoward event that may challenge us, I think building solid foundations are a start, i.e. comfortable secure home, secure finances, solid family relationships. And friendships, whether in real life or online. One life - your life - live it!19 -
