2023: the year I get to buy a car16 -
Hi Elaine
Don’t forget if you have the freezer room you can freeze milk. When I had teenagers at home I could never keep up with bread and milk. We always had long life in too but I know not everyone likes that.
I’m frustrated with the government thinking that people can isolate for 5 days before Xmas. I work in a shop so will be working up to Xmas eve and am finding all the government mind changing extremely stressful. There’s going to be enough guilt and upset this year without the constant mind changing.

Our Xmas plans are very subdued. We will go to MILs on Xmas Eve, but that is it. We weren't sure at first, as she originally had plans to see others, but she is now just stopping on their doorsteps to drop presents and say a quick hello/merry christmas. And just a normal meal at hers.We will be in Tier 2 from Saturday. Our numbers locally have improved dramatically, which is good news. But being tier 2 means we can at least see some people outdoors. Haven't seen FIL and his wife since July, so might be able to do a socially distanced walk somewhere with them soon.No going to the shops here. Deliveries only here. And last minute gift arriving tomorrow. I do need to collect the meat hamper, and that will have to be all 3 of us in the car as I am not insured on MILs car (DH is). He hates going in the shops, so I do it, and obviously we can't leave daughter at home, so it will be all 3 in the car, and just me in the shop.Still get the milk delivered, but thinking of getting some plastic bottled ones to put in fridge and freezer to cover the missing delivery days (next Fri and the following Mon). I won't be working then, so won't be drinking as much tea so consumption should ease up a bit.February wins: Theatre tickets16

I've had quiet Christmases for years, mostly due to working split shifts doing care/support work, so it's always been just a few hours with family in between.I just retired this autumn and recently moved to be nearer to grandchildren, so I'm in a bubble with them as I live alone. I won't be socialising outside of the bubble.I'm fairly sorted for the immediate future but in terms of long-term preps I'm starting from scratch due to the move. I brought a fair amount of tinned stocks with me but I was reluctant to stock up too much ahead of the move due to lack of space in the place I was leaving, and worrying about having to shift it all! So I just did the gift shopping before moving on the basis that I wouldn't want to have to do it on arrival, and I am very glad that I did.But now I'm a bit more settled-in, I need to take stock and identify gaps. Where to start, that's the thing!“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”15

Can't stop..... those with priority A deliveries who are now having to pay for the delivery slots, they have just opened up delivery saver passes £6pm. It wouldn't let me do it on my/parents account with the priority finishing in March. I opened an account in DH name and activated delivery pass with a recurring slot each week. I will skip my parents slot each week and just do an order once a month on there just to keep all balls in the air as I really don't want to set foot in a supermarket if it can be helped.

I have a delivery slot for this Sunday and another booked for 29th - then (if I did it right) a recurring slot starting on 5 January. So hopefully sorted. But I'm not relying on this weekend for Christmas dinner. I already have a duck in the freezer just in case.Tiers and restrictions mean nothing to me as just continuing to shield. Main concern is whether my hospital appointments/tests will continue and main worry is that health is going backwards and I could actually end up IN hospital. Reportedly an estimated 10,000 cases of Covid were actually caught in hospital, Not good.21

There has been some discussion today on whether those originally ordered to shield have been forgotten to a great extent since August. I'm not holding my breath but am awaiting any further info on the subject. Things are in a worse state than they were in March so in my opinion the subject needs to be addressed. Those judged by their health care professionals to be extremely clinically vulnerable have not magically been cured. They are suffering from anxiety, isolation in some cases and the lack of usual health care. I understand the strain on services has led to the focus being on fighting the virus but there will be quite a fallout in the future unless some way of managing their needs can be found. Some everyday solutions could help and make them feel they aren't forgotten.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.20
