Polly, there was a good question put to the PM during the Q&A this afternoon: why are those who were shielding first time around being expected to continue to go to work this time? It evidently took him completely by surprise; he didn't seem to know they'd been expected to go back to work at all. Hopefully in the light of that, the situation will be re-assessed.Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)18

pineapple said:I have a delivery slot for this Sunday and another booked for 29th - then (if I did it right) a recurring slot starting on 5 January. So hopefully sorted. But I'm not relying on this weekend for Christmas dinner. I already have a duck in the freezer just in case.Tiers and restrictions mean nothing to me as just continuing to shield. Main concern is whether my hospital appointments/tests will continue and main worry is that health is going backwards and I could actually end up IN hospital. Reportedly an estimated 10,000 cases of Covid were actually caught in hospital, Not good.
My mum is in my bubble, so as long as we can get her here and back (I can manage the driving to hers, and she doesn't drive long distance anymore) she'll be spending Christmas with me. We should have been going to my brother, but we can't do it in a day as I can't manage the driving, so we're staying here. I've just located a spatchcocked chicken in the freezer, and there's plenty of other food. My brother works locally (he commutes from Devon to Hampshire, staying up in their old house until the sale is completed, and when it's done will be here 2 nights a week, so my mum won't be able to be in my bubble) so we can at least sort out presents and food.16 -

Watching the poor woman trying to sort Brexit with him indicating he needed to step away rather than move alongside her, followed by his mask or no mask mime doesn't bode well. Despite the face, space mantra he's repeated it doesn't seem to have registered with him.Nothing seems joined up such as shielders being told to go back to work. Doesn't he speak with the cabinet? It's coming across as a poor combination of Dads Army and Blackadder.I hope you and yours are well.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

"It's coming across as a poor combination of Dads Army and Blackadder."But at least they were funny. This effort is most definitely not.22

Less than a week ago, he was confirming it was all still going ahead, but urged caution. Then dropped bombshell of a 4th tier, with 8 hours notice, and no mixing at Christmas for those people. So, predictably, London stations and trains were packed last night as people scrambled to get out before they stopped running. Same at the shops for turkeys and gifts, as plans changed. Ensuring more spread. Sigh.
Not seeing MIL now, as our plans were xmas eve. We offered xmas day, but they have decided not to mix at all. Don't blame them. Luckily, we were already prepped for a small Christmas. Last groceries on 23rd being delivered, and we collect our meat hamper same day too. From local farm shop, always nice and quiet there. So no mixing, no mass queues etc.
To end on a positive note, the local scout group included our area last night, for Santa's drive by on a sleigh. With donations requested via online instead of collection buckets. It was brilliant. DD absolutely loved it. Literally jumping up and down and so excited that Santa waved to her. Everyone at a safe distance, but a lovely bit of Xmas magic in a pretty pants year.February wins: Theatre tickets18 -

It’s worse if anything!Having been isolated for so long, it’s well noted amongst my group of friends who shield that merely speaking to someone or going into enclosed spaces can result in a sore throat a few hours later! None of us would last a week ‘out in the open’ 😂

I'm going into hospital on 29th December. Just hoping I don't come out with more than I went in with.
Anyone heard from GQ? Has she already gone to the Parentals for Christmas? Hope she's ok.Not dim.....just living in soft focus

GQ not showing on site searches since 8 November. Fully competent adult etc but I can't help wondering a bit. Not least as the irony of her being caught on the hop is breathtaking.14

Caught on the hop?! Caught on the hop?!? M'dear, a true prepper doesn't hop, she bestrides the world like a colossus. (memo to self, must shift that lockdown weight). Nah, I'm not in Tier 4, my Xmas shopping was done in Jan-Feb, the underbed larder is well bestocked with tinnery, and I've just come back from the allotment with leeks and chard and am about to make soup. I managed to squeeze a major surgery in between lockdowns one and two, having to sign an extra consent form that I understood if I got Covid in hospital I would have approx 3% chance of dying as a result. Between pre-surgical isolation, post-surgical isolation, convalescence, staged return to work, work, making masks and planning next year's gardening, I am having a busy life. If the rules don't get re-jigged, I will be spending Xmas with the fam, who are my support bubble anyway. Wild Thing continues to rule their roost with a paw of steel. Hope all is well with MSE-ers. I don't frequent the site these days, not really feeling the lurve for the new format and I miss those old skool smillies irrationally much.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
