All of which strengthens my drive to clear the other area of the house that could be used for growing stuff, i.e. the porch. It's currently full of gunk that doesn't have anywhere else to go but is still needed - wellies, warm hats & gloves, big coats, and the big casserole dishes etc - but also a certain amount of stuff that should probably have left the premises 10 years ago! It's on the south side of the house, so gets a reasonable amount of light, but not much direct sunshine at the moment as it's shaded by next door while the sun is low. But if I get the windowsills clear and accessible, and bubble-wrap the windows - it's single-glazed - I think we could probably grow salad leaves & pot herbs out there, and the bubblewrap would mean it wasn't obvious what was in there.
Oddly, we're getting some eggs from our bantams now they're undercover, and one of the big girls has come back into lay too. They're not so calendar-dependent, and are just coming back into lay after having moulted, but the bantams don't usually start to lay until mid-February because of low light levels. We had to take DS for a covid test yesterday 😭 as requested by the school who moved him to isolation as he had a temp, hes had a cold for the last 10 days but no covid symptoms and I know there is a viral thing going around his class, I am praying it is not Covid. We did manage to get a test 2hrs after we collected him from school although its now been 24hrs and still waiting for the results, I am getting impatient even though have to wait 48hrs.
I can't even fathom Brexit plans at the moment. I can live without French cheese.17 -
Fingers crossed Thrifty! Hope you don't have to wait much longer.

Well, returned from the office today (I was in to provide first aid cover for the day) to find DD not feeling well, and when I checked she had a temp! 🙄 so no school for her tomorrow and off to the testing site at 9am for a test. 🤞🤞
I know what you mean thrifty, but I just tell myself it's not our fault. We are very cautious as a family and school is the most likely place she would've caught it (whatever it is) from. Viruses spread so easily, and whoever she caught it from may not even have symptoms so probably don't even know they've passed anything on 🤷♀️February wins: Theatre tickets18 -
Thoughts are with you, thrifty and euronorris! I hope that if your DC do have it, it will be mild and the rest of you don't get it.15

This time is so unsettling! Youngest son who is isolating from last Friday got up complaining of a sore throat! In normal times we would administer cold remedies and sore throat tablets and not worry. Now I am watching him like a hawk for any other symptoms, bearing in mind back in April he tested positive with no symptoms at all. I myself have had a very mild sore throat and headache for several days, not attributed to Covid in anyway as no temperature or cough. I too think I had it earlier on as I was wiped out for six weeks with virus, breathing problems then pneumonia to top it off! Once again feeling unsettled and wondering what to do

Elaine I hope youngest does not have the virus but fret not about the school situation as all our secondary schools are finishing tomorrow. DD and Sil, both teachers but at different schools, were sent home this week to have a test as they were under the weather. Thankfully both were negative but no school seems to be taking any chances around here. Hugs to you and yours. Also sending hugs and positive thoughts for Thriftwizard's DS and and Euronorris's DD.
