Wasn't so much fussed about cheese, was more the 20% average increase in prices we will have to pay. On everything.

We import cheddar cheese from Ireland, also a lot of beef; I seem to recall MaccyD's ads saying that all their beef is from Ireland. I reckon we''re in for a bumpy ride this winter, and probably quite a while after that.15

I have plenty of rabbit jointed in the freezer. I find I can not skin, gut and prep it and then eat it the same day. I put the joints in the freezer and then cook them in the slow cooker at a later date. I add lots of wine, herbs etc and they dont smell bad when cooking then. As for lambs, when they go to market they are basically fully grown sheep, not fluffy little lambs. My lambs are born outside in April, live outside with their mums until weaned, then live together in the Lamb flock until ready to be taken to market. They only ever are put indoors if they are unwell or orphan and need to be bottle fed.
Mac'D's do have irish and British beef although Southern Irish beef has more lenient rules and regulations concerning the use of antibiotics and other drugs, whereas UK beef can not use the majority of these for animals destined for the food chain. I thought cheddar was mainly made in the UK although I have seen the Irish cheddar. I think things like french cheeses, olives, tomatoes, peppers etc associated with Mediterranean diets will be the items with big price hikes. Maybe the likes of Lidl and Aldi will also put up their prices as they stock quite a few EU brands. Maybe it will benefit the UK producers as they will be able to price favourably against foreign imports. I have bought several jars of the char grilled red peppers in Lidl as I find these a good alternative if I havent got fresh. I have managed to grow plenty of peppers, chillies and aubergines this year so I will aim to grow more if the price goes up.
ATM I feel like we are getting closer and closer to a south Wales lockdown. I heard that Cardiff, Swansea and Llanelli are all facing their own lockdowns. I am already bordered by Newport, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent all of which are in lockdown. My boys report daily that there is no social distancing going on in school and even came home with a video of the queue (scrum) to get into school, no distancing in evidence there!! For now I have decided to leave them in school as the benefits outweigh the risks. I take them to and from school avoiding the 70 seater school bus with all years mixed together. Once there is a confirmed case or more in the school we have decided that will be the trigger to pull them out and use Google classroom from home. Hoping this wont happen but pretty certain it will at least once this school year!

Elaine sorry to be the doomsayer but there is a case in Blaenavon juniors and West Mon secondary...... that's a bit too near for comfort and doesn't bode well for here.nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently15

Foodwise we need to go back to eating seasonal veg. I remember well doing that as a child in the 50s. I can see that more and more people are growing their own as well. I was pleased to hear one of my sons saying he has his name down for an allotment. I’m trying - I’ve been self sufficient in spuds, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber this year. My youngest son (he grows lots of veg) has built me 4 raised beds so I’m hoping to grow much more next year. I’d like to keep chickens but there is a covenant on my house that I can’t.Any food that becomes expensive due to Brexit I’m planning on avoiding. I’ll find an alternative.
I’m well stocked on dry food but I found recently that a bag of soup mix had gone up from 80p to £1.15 for a 500g bag. However, it still makes cheap meals In the slow cooker with a chicken carcass, ham knuckle end or lamb bone, carrots and onions etc. I will still get about 8 generous portions for less than £1.50.
I usually only go supermarket shopping once a month although I have managed to go two months twice during recent months. One visit to Aldi I was only allowed maximum of two items of any product. That was a real nuisance for milk as I need about 4 litres of long life to last a month. I don’t want to see these limitations again. Grr!18 -
I wholeheartedly agree with the grow your own movement but life is not as simple as that is it? Lots of people do not have a garden and allotments are being built on....well everywhere is going to be built on 😊. We will have less agricultural land and therefore have to rely further on imports. I fail to see how this is progress. I am well stocked already but eventually that supply will deplete by which time prices will have rocketed, and I will have to sell a kidney to pay my shopping bill.20

So it begins... 12 substitutes, beef mince, toilet roll, tinned spaghetti, fusilli pasta, linguine, sugar, sherry, baked beans, soap powder, tinned pears, tinned peaches, tinned potatoes. All substituted ok apart from x3 4pk beans substituted for 1 x4 pk of sugar free beans, and x2 1ltr sherry for x3 0.75 sherry for same price but my Mum will have to cope, didn't think sherry would be an issue!18
