I think it will really start to hit home for people who may have no even thought of preparing now and we will start to see a dwindling of basics again, between that and the resurgence of the virus.

A school in Haverhill, Suffolk has closed as 5 teachers have tested positive for covid19. Worrying times but not surprising given the recently posted images in a school.

Hi everyone!Do any of you know what size of lock'n'lock / clip lock / other airtight food container is just big enough to fit a standard 1.5kg bag of bread flour? Ideally still in its bag so I can just swap 1 bag out and pop the next in to freeze easily. I'm still working my way through a giant bag of flour I bought when standard bags were like gold dust during lockdown so I don't even have a normal sized bag to measure. My freezer is tiny so I can only fit in 1 standard bags worth at a time.I'm trying to optimise the small amount of storage I have in my small kitchen so I can have a wider range of foods available / more of stuff I use frequently, if (when?) we go back into lockdown again and or if there are brexit related food issues so am happy to buy a few new containers. The Covid lockdown did rather highlight my food cupboard lacked some things that would have made for a more varied diet or that I need to have more of in stock at any given time!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

I just wrap the bag in clingfilm or put it into a freezer bag.

I’m just back from holiday today. My youngest son is coming to stay tonight with my 4 year old granddaughter. He’s bringing a chicken with him and I grow my own potatoes but apart from those and home grown tomatoes and lettuce I don’t have anything else apart from onions, frozen and pickled. I was going to go shopping but he says he has cauliflower and carrots growing in his garden. What a godsend growing your own is. It has saved me an unnecessary trip to the shops and the risk that involves. I am always well stocked with pulses and will use the chicken carcass tomorrow to make chicken and veg broth and any leftover chicken into the freezer for future meals.12

Well my two boys are almost back to school; their year groups were in today but that was all. The chaos starts Wednesday when the whole school goes back for the first day. Both have said social distancing is just not happening. Some of the teachers take it seriously and others just seem to be blase about it, standing close to the pupils with no mask. Both of my sons have told teachers to "back off" in their lessons, they did not get a positive response from the teachers but they did step away! For now I am taking them into school although they do have a free school bus that serves the local towns, they would be last on in the morning and first off in the evening so would minimise the time in close quarters with many pupils from different year groups and "bubbles".
I too am sticking to the once a week foray to get groceries, run errands etc. Today was quiet and I managed to go to all shops quickly. The only thing I struggled to find was an apple corer!! Found one in the third shop along with good value onion sets and garlic. I have noticed the huge impact growing your own veg has on the weekly shop. I literally buy bananas and peppers, although I do have some peppers ripening in the poly tunnel. I bought two packs of red onions in LIdl as they were on offer and I signed up to their new app. This gives you £5 off first app shop, plus coupons which luckily was for things I usually buy. I bought an extra box of laundry powder (20% coupon) two extra long life OJ (20%) and some crisps with the same discount.
My pantry is still a bomb site but a well stocked one! Now the kids are back in school I am hoping to get an overview of all of my preps and see what I need to stock up on.

Well today was THE day....DS started school
and do I feel any better about it erm...no! I spoke with his teacher last week to see what measures were being implemented and explained my concern due to my parents, I also made the comment that I felt local people were getting complacent due to thankfully low numbers, I thought they may get the hint that I was serious. I did feel reassured, I was told the children would be given hand sanitiser on entry to the class room, they have markings on the floor to sit on spaced apart, the children are told every morning what Covid is in a non scary way and they play a game each morning to explain they are individual bubbles and hold their arms out to explain others can't come into your personal space, they won't be having hot meals, and they will have jugs of water for the children to refill their own bottles and frequent hand washing in pairs. Arrived, no hand sanitiser given to the children, one of the teachers came out to speak to a parent and stood very close to speak with them, I asked my son about if he was told about a bubble he said no however he is 4 so its difficult to get info out of him, the parents aren't gathered outside of the school gate instead they are up the road a bit stood in a circle pavement width probably 8 - 10 of them, we had to cross the road to get past them. I'm having trouble, I really don't understand why it is so hard for people to social distance? I am really not comfortable i'm hoping things will improve in the next week or so, it was chaos there this morning people everywhere but then in fairness we haven't been around lots of people for quite some time.
We have A for another 4 weeks as a priority customer and then our regular recurring slot is up, It has been a Godsend, I plan on doing 4 large shops and hopefully refilling the larder. I think after that it will probably be CC for us.
Can anyone suggest a cookery book for meals using store cupboard ingredients.12
