Got a pal working for HMRC who has been given the heads up that their work on imports & exports etc means there will be no Christmas or New Years leave for Anyone on the team. Their manager said he was in it alongside them & was also not taking leave, but some of them were a but startled. For them, it's going to be an absolutely manic few weeks with bonus covid twitches.
Me, (since I work from home) my "office" is gradually becoming stuffed with packed crates as those extra "few things" have to be stored somewhere.13 -

Hello all
I really have to sort out the pantry, it looks like a bombs gone off! There are packets of flour, tea, sugar , pasta etc piled up everywhere. I am managing to use the oldest first but only because I haven't managed to mark the dates on the newer items.
I have been buried in tomatoes again! I have made tomato sauce for pasta and plain cooked tomatoes and managed to water bath or oven can many jars full. I have dried some mushrooms and small tomatoes in the dehydrator , putting the "sun" dried ones in a jar and covering them with oil. The beans are finally coming to an end and the freezer has many kilos put away for later. I have left some of the older beans on the plants to dry off either for seed next year or for dried beans to add to stews etc. The squash plants have started to die back but they have been very prolific and there are many squashes I can store for winter. I have over grown very large kohl rabi that I will have to decide what to do with. I saw a video on FB of a subsistence farmer in Russia using the large kohl rabi in a vegetable dish so they are not a total loss. My chillies and peppers are still looking happy so there will be plenty of them to harvest. I have even managed to produce some aubergines , a first for me, although they are a long skinny type, not the short fat ones. The plants were given to me so I am more than happy that they have fruited. This year the garden has been a great success and I will have put by many kilos of food for my family to use through the winter. I am keeping a notebook and listing everything I use or store from the garden. I will eventually add it all up to see exactly what I have grown or foraged.
On another note eldest son went back to school today. Que nervous mother who managed to give herself a stress headache for most of the day! He had sanitiser and a mask so I hoped for the best. When I picked him up I asked him about social distancing and it seems its virtually non existent and many of the pupils don't seem to care!! He did say some took it seriously but not many! This was one year group back in school today, I am now worrying what it is going to be like with all the children from 5 year groups back?

Can I divert you good folks back to the subject of face masks for a bit? Now that the initial panic's died down and we've got used to wearing masks in shops and so forth, what's the recommendation based on your experience for a sensibly-priced reusable face covering for chap to get himself? I'd need to buy online, but not from Amazon.

I've seen masks on sale in Boots, The Range and in supermarkets, their websites may be worth a look. One life - your life - live it!11

I saw some in our local garden centre. They had adult sizes and children's. I think around a fiver for the adult ones.
I've spent all afternoon making another half a dozen for DH and myself. I found a video on YouTube for one with a 'peak' that fits over the nose and under specs to stop them steaming up, so I've had a bit play around with the pattern to make it fit us better. DH doesn't like elastic around his ears so his have the bands around his head. Quite pleased with the final results.

We got one from Eurocarparts, it was £10 for one but it has some kind of filter etc I got sucked in by the wording but ignorance is bliss (or is it!) and I do feel safer in it even if that may not actually be the case! It's washable up to 50 times for the built in filter, but i've been trying not to go out if I can help it however the drama with school uniform is rapidly eating into those 50 times.
Well the shoe saga continued into middle of last week when DS tried in store Clarks shoes on at home for an hour, his little toe was bright red afterwards, turns out to narrow and now have to return to store, frantic buying online from clarks but they wanted £7 next day delivery, went with free postage however didn't think they would arrive in time and managed to find an independent store doing evening appointments and now have some fancy ones with spiders on that glow in the dark which apparently are comfortable but I get the impression even if they weren't DS wouldn't say so. Now I have the fun job of running around yet again to return £200 in school shoes. Other news DH returned to work a few weeks ago and a couple of days ago was told the company has gone bust but has been bought out, they have made 500 redundant but i'm getting the impression there may be a rocky road a head yet, i'm not sure what is happening with the 50% still on furlough. I'm trying to get enough supplies to get to 1st of April, i've worked out I need between 15 - 30 of everything for store cupboards and 7 for things not used that much. Its the fresh stuff and freezer stuff I don't know how to eat if I didn't have those. I would also like to apologise for my terrible spelling and grammar, i'm really tired at this time of the evening.
