Masks aside, I see that the media have finally woken up to what's been painfully obvious for months now i.e. a second wave which might well coincide with the flu season. Given that, and the penny finally dropping with some (many?) that it's going to get interesting supply-wise on account of Brexit, are we all well stocked up before Mass Panic Buying Round Two?

Get masks and gloves in now, before everybody else does.

I haven't yet been anywhere to warrant wearing a mask, face covering, or whatever you want to call it. But I have some hand-sewn ones ready to deploy if/when I do finally venture into a shop. DH has been wearing one to go grocery shopping since the start of lockdown.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)13 -
The gov.uk web site has very clear instructions for making masks at home. I've made a few and I prefer this design over others I have tried on line.13

I've been getting fabrics for masks for gifts - an Aunt who's a huge William Morris fan, Miffy prints as be darned if I'm going to look sensible & respectable All the Time & to nudge the offspring into cooperation by "I'll wear the navy one if you both rug up" and I've got a length to fit around husband's nose & beard. Which is a demure pinstripe fabric but more importantly needs to fit as we've been working quite hard to make him leaving the homestead as unnecessary as possible, since he's not in the best of health, male & hates hospitals with a fundamental terror. He quite likes the T shirting curved beak design, but a 25cm circle will not cover his nose & heard (d/2 = 15 cm!) and it has to engulf the beard whole, allowing for a nosewire and glasses... I am so tempted to sort him a (cropped short) Afghan Burqa (the blue shuttlecock engulfing robe) but I'm assured the niqab is easier to wear (in either case he'll have his glasses over the top). Over a month ago as I queued to get into Tesco I saw a moslem woman in niqab & the blue disposable gloves & suspected she was masked under it as well & thought "good on her".
(Husband currently wears a bandanna a la cowboy or a knitted tube a la squaddie - neither are double layer & neither are sufficient so I am permitted to pin fabric around him til we are agreed on something that he can be safe in, but still leave the compound!)11 -
Seeing as how there are so many similarities between what's happening now and the Great Plague of 1665, I keep wondering about knocking up my very own plague mask ...Might not go down too well in Lidl though ...We're all doomed14

Gloves are disgusting. Wash your hands or use sanitizer when out and about.
gloves aren’t used properly. You was your hands, put gloves on, perform task that will soil your hands, remove gloves with proper technique, dispose of gloves, wash hands. Repeat procedure each time you need to glove up
Cashiers who wear gloves should be changing them after each customer.
The gloves are actually microscopically porous. Using hand sanitizer on gloves breaks them down and increases the pore size.
Just clean your hands frequently20 -

Well its round three of the, is he positive/is he negative ?Covid testing saga! We have decided due to one positive and one negative test it is 50/50, so we opted for a third tie breaker! Or in the words of Meatloaf "two out of three aint bad!" He had his third test this morning, results either late tonight or in the morning. We have had track and trace people telephone both myself and my partner both of whom seem totally bemused that testing is not a clear cut issue and there maybe a grey area in between. If this third test comes back inconclusive you may all be able to hear my scream ( and profanities) from where ever you live in the UK or beyond!
It has been a very stressful few days and it is still not over. If it comes back negative I am going with that result. I for one have had two negative tests despite being the one person in the household who has actually got symptoms!
I have totally avoided the news today. Yes there may or may not be a second wave coming combining with flu or any other virus that is doing the rounds. Yes the two viruses may work together/against /independently of each other when in the poor unfortunate that has them. I for one will be continuing as I have been since lock down began, wearing a mask, gloves and using alcohol based sanitiser. I have made double thickness cotton masks to prevent me coughing on anyone and to stop me touching my own face whilst out and about. You do have to be careful to not keep taking them off and on, fiddling with them etc as that would defeat the object of wearing them. When I take them off I use the loop behind my ear and drop it onto the car floor. With gloves I try to take them off turning them inside out and again littering the car floor!
Today I have been in the veg patch trying to de stress. I had about 30 spare tomato plants so I have done a spot of guerrilla gardening and planted them in an old muck heap in one of the fields. I just need to temporary fence them off before the sheep eat them!!
