Makes me think about what your friend did ... if he'd carried on walking towards them, I wonder how they'd have reacted?
:( That's the 10, 000 dollar queston, isn't it? He was put on the spot and made a decision quickly and it ended badly. If he'd walked right past them, it might have ended no differently.

Due to the layout of my block of flats, the approaches always involve going around blind corners where druggie ne'redowells might be and up to all sorts. Had an incident 24 hrs ago when I had to pick my way between three right looking herberts and their staffy which was sprawled underfoot. The only way to avoid it, once having seen them, would have to be turning right around and walking about 50 yards around the block, to bring myself out just the other side of them and in plain view. Not exactly an inconspicious thing to do.

I went quietly past them with no eye contact and no looking back over my shoulder as if trying to memorise their faces. It's helped by being a midlife woman and thus technically invisible. ;)

I've just replaced my Mini oven, which I've had for about 10 years.

It's had a redesign, which makes it easier to clean, as you can see from the images below (old design first).

What also occurred to me is, given it's low power consumption (which makes it cheap to run), it could probably be run from a moderately sized generator.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently

I've the Beko analogue of that to my right. With bonus grill. Sourced from when the old Scout hut was felled to allow the new one to be built, so comfortably over a decade old & still going fine.
My only observation would be put it at a height where you can see both the grill & what's on the rings.

In electricity power cuts, we just hauled out the camping gas setup & made porridge on that.

Bob, remember GQ is technically invisible. You'd only realise as the contusions appeared...
  • TBH, I rarely use the rings anymore.

Most of my pan cooking is done on my single induction hob.

And I'll be swapping that for a double one, next time the have any in.

I've put a couple of extra boxes of vege and real suet into my store today and also some dried 'have to soak' marrowfat peas, not exactly categorised as health foods BUT in cold wintery weather a steamed pudding is a real rib sticker and warms you up from the inside out for a long time after you've eaten it. I find steamed puds re-heat very well in the microwave and will keep the best part of a week covered in the fridge to be sliced and re-heated. My dad liked a plain suet roll sliced and served with golden syrup or jam and some custard or served as a starter with a ladle of gravy. Either option makes a filling addition to a main meal with only a little meat in it and gives energy for a good afternoons work too.
