My cupboards are more colourful, even if a hungry teenager can clear sections in a worryingly short space of time.
Or my OH... I've had an unscheduled 5-day stay in hospital and come back to find my store cupboard in chaos! He's basically just wolfed down stuff straight out of the tins as well as eating the girls' veggie offerings. So I shall have to take stock & replenish over the weekend or early next week (as well as visiting the aged parent) before the next treatment cycle starts. I was slightly freaked the other day, I had music playing on you tube and then was surfing newspaper websites. Went away from the pooter not knowing that a news clip was playing on a website that was open on another tab, and had speech coming through as well as music.
thriftwizard, yikes to the ravishment of the storecupboard. After restocking, does there need to be a serious convo with the OH about the stores, the usage of them, the need to use them carefully and prudently in the event of An Event? Otherwise a lot of careful work could be undone in a week and leave the whole household in a pickle.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just seen a news article from the Beeb (so not sure how reliable) stating that Pharmacists are saying over 80 medicines are now proving hard to obtain or are at exuberant prices.
Is this yet another attempt to scaremonger? I find it disturbing that they seem to like worrying those who are most vulnerable.
It has made me think that maybe I should stock up on my sons antihistamin and keep a small supply of painkillers while they are cheap and available.. Is that a bad thing, I wouldn’t want to be exasperating the situation.. It does seem though that they are referring to prescribed medication.."There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇0 -
Goodness Thriftwizard that's just what you didn't need to come home to! Hope you're fully recovered by the way?
Jojo - strange noises in the night can be really scary. Glad you worked out the cause
MrsLW - Yes, I'm feeling much more positive thank you:) and once again a well stocked pantry was a real boon during the poorly period.
A brand new small but well stocked Co-Op store opened here last month. Not having felt up to par I hadn't been in until yesterday. It is easily within walking distance unlike every other supermarket so will probably be an real asset in our area. I am very impressed by prices - comparable with all the big supermarkets so far - but even more impressed by MrCs discovery of yellow (red in this case) items. Am now squirrelling lean mince, stewing steak and bacon away in the freezer ready for whatever s h t f next chez Oddny. , I suspect that such largesse will vanish once it becomes established but I'm making prepping hay while the sun shines today.0 -
Thriftwizard So sorry to hear about unscheduled stay in hospital, and it sounds as if you'll be going back again? Thinking of you.
MadamMim Apparently one reason for the shortages is that the NHS will only pay x amount for y drug, so the manufacturers of generic drugs give priority to customers from elsewhere who are willing to pay z amount. If the NHS will pay only x amount but the pharmacist can only obtain it at a higher price, the pharmacist has to pay the difference themselves.
Sometimes there is a shortage of a particular raw ingredient, for example with an OTC migraine "painkiller + anti-nausea" drug which has been unobtainable for many months.
Anyway, it isn't scaremongering (what would be the point?), nor is it due to Brexit. Not at the moment, anyway. It's just a ruddy nuisance. Not reassuring in the least, I admit.
Capella I'm really pleased to hear that you're starting to feel better0 -
Capella when I lived in Scotland a revamped and enlarged Coop opened up in my local town which is quite well-to-do and so they stocked some really nice fresh meals. For quite a few months they couldn't get the stocks right and cut everything right down in price and I lived off some very tasty menus indeed. There was then a management change and all that stopped and the same food at full price seemed very pricey. Re medicine shortages, there's an interesting post by Honey Bear on page 64 of the Prepping for Brexit tread, and another by her on page 65
According to those, Brexit has now become part of the problem, but it did exist already.0 -

Bless you, not a nice feeling at all.. hope you’ve shaken it off now
Thanks, yeah.
I was just reading a story in the paper about a Japanese hotel that is all staffed by robots. A guest kept being woken up by the room's Alexa type device saying: 'I'm sorry I didn't catch that.'
He eventually realised it thought his snoring was him speaking.
Good job I don't have an Alexa gadget, as I snore like a trooper.0 -
I don't want something designed specifically to listen in to my every word and snore. I talk enough drivel to drive some poor bloke at GCHQ barmy - but I have been extremely irritated by the phone version frequently firing up despite having made sure it doesn't have permission to run. So the bloke has probably got a spreadsheet of Chez Jojo's recordings/computer transcriptions, all saying Eff Off - if they don't have a specific set of files titled 'Uncooperative, possibly of interest but far too likely to notice observation'.
I do, however, entertain myself when on the phone to my friend, who has every device imaginable - I've turned all his lights off, for example, switched his TV over to children's television repeatedly (whilst he has sworn profusely at me doing so) and generally talked complete nonsense even more than usual until he gives in and goes into another room.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
