thriftwizard said:Our DD1 who works in a supermarket, currently doing internet orders, is often baffled & bemused by the system's substitution suggestions! Naans instead of poppadums particularly amused her; she didn't do it because, as she said, they're not the same thing at all, but her best friend rang up in stitches that very evening & announced she'd been sent two lots of naans instead of one pack of naans & one of poppadums. (Luckily, naans do freeze well.)
I'm hungry now, and I don't have any of either.10 -
I've been doing online orders, as the only shop that has had a quite time so far has been Lidl after 6, which I go in every other week as the other week is the delivery, seeing as the furry owner has no fang's, is a very senior kitty and fussy begger to boot, so her food is on that, as well as heavy stuff.
Both OH and I are in the at risk group, but he's at more risk than me, so trying to leave shopping at once a week, plus it saves money.
Even better, I've picked my first radishes today, set more seed of them and seen 3 little courgettes coming on the plants.
We've got a bakery in the village, I'll nip and ask about buying fresh yeast, not used it in years, so will have to brush up on order to do the mixture for bread. We are lucky in the village, 3 farms all with eggs for sale, including double yokers at the moment.

I have started unticking all boxes for substitutions as it was getting ridiculous. I expected that I would get a lot of gaps in my shopping, but funnily enough I've had hardly any. It made me wonder if supermarkets were substituting things to suit them, rather than because of actual unavailability. It could just be a coincidence of course - not everything has to be a conspiracy!8

We have been having a family overnight staycation! The boys put a couple of tents up in the field, took a rickety old bbq down and set up a camp fire. We all had a lovely bbq and chilled watching the sun go down. A few beverages were consumed too! I went back to the house and left dad and boys to it!
Watching the news this morning I was very dismayed to see crowded beaches, beauty spots rammed with visitors and long tailbacks of cars who have no doubt travelled miles to get there!! Is it me or did anyone else get a total feeling of dread? What are these idiots doing? Do they think that the virus has miraculously gone away and that they can have a free for all? I know the weather was beautiful and that many had been in lock down for weeks but really? do they not have the imagination to find less crowded places, less obvious, out of the way?? OK maybe its me being a miserable mare, I am blessed with beautiful countryside around me and space, and I am out of touch with how the masses are thinking and feeling? I would love to go to the beach, I grew up near the sea and miss it greatly. Maybe we should pack up and join the masses going on a road trip, well maybe as I am in Wales and we are supposed to be in lock down, not that you would ever know!!

Believe me love it's not you alone! I'm absolutely dreading the infection and death figures over the next month to six weeks, utter stupidity, utter recklessness and utterly incomprehensible behaviour. Do these ignoramuses actually think that the virus is ended? how, how on earth is it possible to think that? or worse of all do they think they'll ALL only get a 'cold'? humanity is as predicted likely to go out with a whimper rather than a bang. They will all of course blame everyone else and failing that the government!
We deliberately walked in the evening yesterday and passed not a living soul so that's probably going to be a new routine if people are going to be as stupid as this. I got a text message from the local surgery this morning saying to wear a mask if out and about but definitely if I had to visit the surgery they wouldn't let me in UNLESS I am wearing facial protection. Good for them!

I have just downloaded a free pattern for sewing face masks. I had a packet of face masks in my preps, along with hand sanitiser, two big bottles of isopropyl alcohol, cold and fever medication etc. I have used quite a few of them so I am now getting creative! I have plenty of fabric here so I am getting sewing!!

I've made six masks so far-four for me and two for DH. I decided that I need more masks as I'm the one who does the shopping. Very few people around here seem to wear them although there are quite a few posts on the local facebook page from people offering to make them. One woman has a stall outside her house, I hope people don't try them on before they buy.
I've just finished making a mask with a nose piece as I found that my glasses do get steamed up if I'm wearing one. We wash our masks after each use and always carry a plastic bag to put them in after wearing.8 -
The problem is that there will be many who don't have gardens/outside space/ facilities at home and if you've been cooped up with a number of kids for all this time the temptation must be strong to get out. Some of the beach photos looked bad but on closer look the bulk of people were in small groups. Having said that, yes there are some idiots. I would personally have volunteered to go to the road in Newquay where there was a long line of motorhomes. All of whom were woken up in the early hours and sent on their merry way by the police. I would have truly enjoyed that.9

Agree, gran3, that those without gardens and especially with kids, will likely be wanting to get out and about. Hope people can find a way to be in nature but keep the 2m and not clog up roads. Yes, the weather has been lovely but hopefully people will look at those overcrowded photos and be more cautious. Through work I’m supporting some who are in flats, have kids and struggling. We can hope!9
