I’ve been awol a few days as i needed to switch off from the news etc as my anxiety was getting too much. We are slowly working our way through the freezer, DD supermarket chain had sent out an email to their customers saying they were implementing various measure to keep their staff safe - absolutely lies. None of the measures are in place at her branch and the staff keep asking management when its happening only to be told “its been ordered”. Other supermarkets already have screen and visors in place, its a disgrace.
I’m regretting offering to shop for elderly neighbours i’m sorry to say. I have been doing it once a week, but they are calling me in between asking for stuff “today or tomorrow is fine” i don't want to go more than once a week and expose myself more often to catching it but i feel bad saying no to them as they are over 80.
DH keeps talking about going back to work in the next week or two. He doesnt qualify for any money from the government as he is self employed but just over the £50k threshold. He employs 2 members of staff and is keeping them on so though the government is paying 80% of their wages, he is paying the remaining 20%. I dont know how long we can keep this up as we have our food and bills to pay too with no income. Sorry for the long bleak post.18 -
dandy-candy, do tell the people you are only shopping on Y day, and only accepting their list on X day before 18.00, no changes allowed. This is a voluntary service you offer to help them out, you're not their paid shopping assistant. Age is no excuse; they should no better than to impose themselves.

dandy-candy, I agree. Tell people when you're going shopping and when you need to know. Either that, or let them know of any volunteer services you know of. Or is there a way of letting a group know if somebody is vulnerable? We have just lost a member of my social circle to this virus who wasn't elderly and who, two weeks ago, was doing everything possible to impress upon elderly neighbours and relatives the need to take this seriously. My apologies if this doesn't help your anxiety; I suffer from it too but everybody needs to do what they can to balance providing help with their own needs.
On another note, I have just seen that Jack Monroe's book Tin Can Cook is 99p today on Kindle. It might prove helpful to somebody?

Fortunately the Brexit false starts and the scaremongering therein was a good dry run for us. But what I didn't anticipate was self isolation and the nation's obsession with delivery slots. Even though I'm on the list my first & only supermarket delivery for something like two months is due tomorrow. Talk about anxious, It's going to be like Xmas & armageddon rolled into one. Wish I'd taken up online shopping months ago - but I'm a bit of a luddite
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?15 -
I live on the edge of the Lakes in a tiny village where everyone knows everyone else. But this week, when out on my normally lonely constitutional, I have had to dodge some strangers walking around. Turns out it's the owners of a large holiday let in the vllage with their grown up kids - 3 cars parked by the property. I'm not one for 'snitching on the neighbours', but people like this need a good talking to!14
