If you have a larger supermarket near you, that is open very late/24hr, it's worth trying late one evening. My sister reports that it was very quiet at 10.35pm at her tesco last night, and all the shelves were being stocked as she went round, so she was able to get what she needed.
My neighbour said that our morrisons was absolutely crazy first thing yesterday morning. I went about 11ish (for compost lol), and it was busy but not manic. But....a lot of shelves were empty.
Do we all need cheering up? I know I do! Was finally well enough to get into the garden yesterday with DD (who was delighted to be outside), and see signs of spring! There is a bush, I don't know what it is, but it produces lovely white flowers in early spring. The first flower has opened, and it was lovely to see!February wins: Theatre tickets14 -
Morning preppers, I'm so relieved at the thought that over 70s are going to be advised to socially distance this week, I've been feeling slightly foolish for the past few days especially having to explain to my manageress at the shop why we weren't going in for the foreseeable future. I'm mightily grateful to my son in law for getting my daughter to make what was undoubtedly one of the most difficult phone calls of her life, even more grateful that we know her well enough to take her advice seriously and act upon it instantly. I can honestly confess to being scared stiff by this, as an over 70 with a pre existing condition and the knowledge that one of my meds predisposes me to the worse this virus can inflict and that if we are hospitalised we wouldn't be prioritised we'd be in an ordinary ward just on oxygen and not likely to survive. I'm not ready to die just yet if I can do anything to avoid it.
The biggest thing I have to get my head round is the thought that I may never see my grandchildren again if the worst happens and that is overwhelmingly sad but I will become accustomed as time goes on and we have the luxury of skype and face time as well as phone calls (at this point in time) and I can have as much contact as they have time for and who knows? perhaps there will be a breakthrough and a vaccine or an effective drug to treat the pneumonia that is made available to all sufferers regardless of age or condition. All that is left is HOPE!

Mrs L - i’ve just had to write a letter to my next door but one neighbour reassuring her that I’m probably better prepared than anyone else in the close! My actual neighbour has offered to take myself and the cats in his bike trailer either to Devon or Bristol if I need to be with my children urgently 😂😂 The sweetest offer ever! I secretly suspect he is worried that I might go and stay with my children. He lives alone to, is disabled and has learning difficulties - looks like Compo from LOTSW. He is very attached to one of my cats ❤️12

DryTheRain said:Crikey this is getting genuinely scary - I’ve just been over to the boots website to top up my vitamin supplies and found that all the vitamin C had gone!! Never mind, I thought, I’ll pop over to amazon, get another six pack of those 2/5 a day Napolina ready meals, and not only have they gone but everything in my basket is now out of stock :-(((
This was partly prompted by a report in the express, which says that the govt plans ‘strict isolation’ orders for over 70s and those with pre-existing conditions. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-51893135To echo MrsLW, if you need to go shop, do it TODAY, as early as you can. My carer reported fairly well stocked shelves in the supermarket yesterday (other than hand sanitiser obvs) but if the major onlines are anything to go by that might not be the case for very long. Good luck everyone!!11 -

Lyn I don't know if it will help or not but when I read about the link with some medications (one of which my OH takes as well) someone in that sphere had responded saying that the link was "very tenuous".
Sorry I can't supply a link to what I was reading, i found it when I googled, but please, you and other people on one of those meds, try not to panic.10 -
Thanks Ivyleaf, DD2 actually sent me both articles one from the BMJ and the other from the Lancet so I could read them in their entirety and the suggestion is that the medication affects the fatty lipid layers of cells and allows the virus spike to more easily enter target cells. It's not proven that if I stop the med it will make any difference it will have to be a personal taking of responsibility for it if I do and I hope I may be able to get an alternative from the GP to replace it but he's not available until next week as he's on leave. Good luck to you and Mr Ivyleaf and smidge kitten too xxx.10

Just popping in to say hi and thankyou. Many years ago I started popping in here, even before I was a member, and learnt some lessons that have had me ready for the worst for some time, made me think about 'the what ifs'. I have solar power for if the electricity goes, a wood burner and a store of dry wood. I have food in the house and, yes, enough loo roll. I have my head around most things, got BOB bags at works and the allotment and plans to grow 'secret' food this year in flower beds and in what will look like a big pile of logs. I even have a small stockpile of my usual meds and know I will last a few months without official prescriptions. Not a fan of brexit bbut this did bring sharply into focus for some laughing friends about prepping. I feel it took me a long time to get my head around the possibilities in all sorts of ways and recognise why the panic for others who have been caught out without they thought that the world may go to s##t in their lifetime.
Keep up the good work folks and thankyou once more.
