I'm not ready to die just yet if I can do anything to avoid it.
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?22 -
Is that the rumour that blood pressure tablets can make you more susceptible and possibly more severe case of it.....greatful for the limited cushion my prepps proved....never thought I'd need to use them...though hope you are getting through this14

We're not there yet though, this is an unknown outcome and hopefully most younger and fitter people will if they catch corvid-19 have very few symptoms and discomforts and be fit and well again in a very short period of time and back to their normal fitness levels and living life normally again which will enable society to function relatively normally again too. In the meantime I'm sure that medics and scientists all across the globe are working 24 hours a day to find the vaccine and meds that will treat this new viral infection and hopefully in time there will be hope for us older and vulnerable folks too so although it's a dark and fearsome time there is still that gleam of hope shining on the horizon and I'll not give way to total despair just yet!14

I had the awkward phone conversation with my mum yesterday about social distancing
She will be 80 next month and step dad is 83. She seemed ok about it and pointed out we only chat when we visit anyway so may as well do that by phone. I told her I'll be calling them for chats every day - even if they don't want me too! I have an underlying medical condition that I keep private at work. I may be "outed" soon which I'm finding unnerving. Silly, I know, but can't help the way I feel.
Only other prepping here is that I will be insisting my daughter takes my car to work starting tomorrow so she avoids public transport. She can drop me at my work early and pick me up late.15 -
Hi,
I have lurked on this forum for a while and as a result, have built up a personal prep store; for which I am very grateful. I have unlurked to try to offer some reassurance to older people and those with ongoing health conditions. Even for the elderly, the death rate is not 100%. I have seen figures that it is 20%, not great but it means 80% survive. Please try to hold on to that thought. Prepare but don't make yourself ill with worry.

It's nice to know that the prepping thread is a useful tool that many have been able to access to make the decision to prepare or not for unforeseen events. It makes all the barbs and derision that have been poured on us long time preppers worthwhile when people are considerate enough to come on and thank contributors who have posted over the years. There is an older archived thread (very long but encyclopaedic in useful info) entitled PREPAREDNESS FOR WHEN that is well worth a dip into if more ideas are needed, a useful resource.14

Just back from my little rural town Co-op. Didn't check the loo roll or pasta but they are out of cheap paracetamol and spray bleach and running a bit low on tinned meat. Still loads of freezer stuff. I went before door opening at 10am and it was already busy. No sign of trolleys full of multiple packs of this and that, just people quietly building up a range of reserves. I think the recent news has probably spooked one or two.

Another lurker here just wanting to add my thanks as well. In uncertain times having a nice supply of the essentials is very reassuring indeed. I've been mocked by friends and colleagues in the past for this, now a lot of folks are seeing the benefits of being prepared.17

Another mainly lurker who wishes to thank the thread - I am not having to be part of the current panic. OH and I have plenty of food stores etc and have planned ahead. Our veg supplier has said they will honour regular orders before fulfilling extras - we've been customers for about 6 years now so we should be ok for a while and we are planning to grow some of our own veg starting asap.
OH already has a hospital bag packed and I started one yesterday. OH has also put some bottled water, tissues and snacks etc by his bed as he'll not want to be going downstairs for a few days if he's not well.
Fortunately my close family are preppers too and are sensible about taking precautions so we don't have anyone to worry about.
Hopefully we've kept out of harm's way, but if we have crossed paths with an infected person this past week we may not know for a few more weeks if we've escaped unscathed.
