MrsLurcherwalker said:Thanks Baggins I've just had a video call with DD1 and the baby and am feeling less 'grey'. Also have contacted the shop and the manageress was so lovely and understands and says she will shut the shop for the duration as soon as she hears of a case anywhere close to keep the staff and herself as safe as is possible. I am welcome back when all this is gone, thankfully. This is feeling totally surreal as a situation even though I've been prepping for years and years I NEVER ever thought it would be for a brand new disease with no treatment, it feels like a TV series, so weird.
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?9 -

Thanks Unrecordings, yesterday was like being dipped in ice water, I just froze when DD2 said 'Ma, you have to go to ground indoors until this is over NOW', shook all over and felt sick, despite the convictions about prepping this felt just too much. Panic was what it was indeed, today I've uncurled a bit, done some research and talked to both daughters, seen pictures and videos and one video call, all the babies, consulted the surgery and just got my head in a much better place. When you realise it IS panic, it IS a lot easier to control.13

I'm in my late 70s and DH is early 80s. Fortunately we have enough supplies in to last quite some time. Our son told us the local Sainsburys was decimated! Shelves empty of toilet rolls (really?) and very few tinned goods. I had to go to my local GPs yesterday for a COPD check (we both have asthma, but fairly mild). I'm certainly not being complacent about this virus, it's completely unknown and I think everyone should be responsible for their own health and, in doing so, protecting other peoples health. Also..please contribute to the foodbank if you're able to. Lastly..some evil numpty pinched two bottles of hand gel from the doctor's reception desk this week!
Normal people worry me.11 -

I work an admin job in a hospital, I used to do direct patient care, my biggest concern at the moment is being asked to go back to delivering direct patient care. I want to help and I loved working with patients but I dont want to bring the virus home to my two young children. I felt quite unerved watching the news today. I worked in finance in 2008, it felt the same......9 -

Zentimes said:I have an ancient biochemistry degree, lipids are fats/oils (not 'like' them, they are them!) Cells are surrounded with what's called a 'lipid bilayer'. Basically because lipids have a positive charge at their 'head' end and a negative 'tail', they will tend to line up in a certain way and naturally form spheres. Soap is able to disrupt this bilayer and break open the virus particles. It's just as well, really, because soap is a cheap thing!
