The Prepping Thread - A Newer Beginning ;)

Folks I have re-joined a UK - prepper forum I belonged to years back. Sound, sensible types not mad gun totin preppers! Very useful. Can send details to anyone interested - not sure if allowed to post link. Just been out for a walk. Encountered a couple of people - we kept our distance. One of them was a neighbour with cancer - he insisted on a very big distance! We aren't the only ones. Seriously if the best Boris et al can come up with for the vulnerable is 'not to go on a cruise', we need to take responsibility for ourselves.

Daz, If you can't get through to 111 then I would phone your gp surgery. I heard someone on the radio who had symptoms say he struggled to get through to 111 even now before the peak. He kept getting cut off in the queue. He also spoke to his doctors surgery who gave him sound advice. Obviously don't try to go in but you should be able to get through to your gp surgery if 111 fails.12

Thanks Baggins I've just had a video call with DD1 and the baby and am feeling less 'grey'. Also have contacted the shop and the manageress was so lovely and understands and says she will shut the shop for the duration as soon as she hears of a case anywhere close to keep the staff and herself as safe as is possible. I am welcome back when all this is gone, thankfully. This is feeling totally surreal as a situation even though I've been prepping for years and years I NEVER ever thought it would be for a brand new disease with no treatment, it feels like a TV series, so weird.17

I'm not really sure why I am bothering after the conversation I just had with my Mum who seems to be in denial of how big a deal this actually is if my Dad gets it, and she doesn't consider herself at risk either, even though she is. I can't keep telling her how bad it would be however I don't think it's fair anymore to stress her out as all our conversations are about the virus which is several times a day, I think I need to shut up now and just get on with prepping quietly and admit I am not responsible for them both, it is ultimately up to them.15

I think the children used to mock my ideas of self-sufficiency but it was the way I was brought up.My entire strategy is based on not catching it! 😂13 -
herlig said:A young girl has posted on our local rural Facebook page letting older and more vulnerable people know she has three days off work a week and can get shopping, pick up medication and take people to the doctors if needed. She also made a call to arms for more young healthy people to help out. The thread is the bustling with youngsters also offering.
The health and safety of it might be questionable but well done that girl, and subsequently others, to rally round the vulnerable at this time.

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?12 -
Ladies and gentlemen I present for light relief the tale of an eejit who I'm told walked into my previous gp practice in Yorkshire saying, 'I think I have coronavirus'. The practice is now in lockdown.16

All being well, a night's heavy going over with the bleach, and using CCTV footage to see who was near and for how long, they should mange to open mostly tomorrow, but Ye Gods Some People!
This week I intend to live a life of caution, as I'm nipping South to check up on my parents, but then I plan to position myself in line of sight for need volunteers to "wield a thermometer outside public buildings". That way I get the official issue clothing, such issue sanitiser as they have, all the usual perks of employment plus a free pass to travel on official business (& I've had a bit of practice fitting supermarkets & pharmacies into my route) so I can be the local go get gal for a few families who aren't as young or healthy or either as they'd like.11 -
I too felt like I was knocked for six hearing the PM yesterday. I’m used to bleak thoughts in my head about this stuff but not other people saying them! My dad asked me if i wanted to pop over at lunchtime as my stepmum were having a crowd of her friends around for cheese and crackers as a final get together before they all start social distancing! I had a list of chores to do so declined, but really??
I realise i have become a bit obsessive with watching the news. DH was at home with my yesterday as we had two Ikea bookcases to put together. He couldnt believe how many times i sneaked away “Just to check the news” - I think i have a problem!
I thought i was ok for food preps as we are a household of 3, but both my boys are moving back home in the next couple of weeks and now i’m having doubts. Its quite hard deciding how much to buy as DH and DS2 eat like horses. I had a good clear out of the cupboards as i had loads of big serving dishes that literally only got used and Christmas, well they are off to the charity shop and now theres more room for tins.I got a text saying our dentists has had a deep clean and will be reopening in a week. I’ve had a mild toothache since they shut but i still am not sure about rushing back there.13
